UV Prefilter

My Coralife Turbo Twist 9W UV is coming. Is it really necessary to get a prefilter if I clean the UV twice a week? I don't have a sump or anything that can run it inline. It's going to be HOB with just a powerhead. I was thinking about getting a canister but many people are against it. Thanks.

You can buy small prefilters that fit on the intake to various powerheads. I have never noticed the inside of UV filters getting too dirty since nothing can grow on the walls of the quartz tubes.

I run mine with out a prefilter and clean it every two weeks or so with no problems
