UV sterilizer "on" when maturing?

I have a UV sterilizer hooked up and ready to go. My tank has been maturing for a little over a month. I was told, by the guy that sold it to me, not to turn it on for a couple weeks more. Is this advise correct?

i did not use mine for the first month. also i didnt use lights either. there was no live stock in the tank yet. i know you dont want to run your uv unit before your filter only after or out of the filter or it will kill all the good bacteria before it seeds you filter.

You can leave it off until you're ready to stock up. I just can't think of a reason to turn it on until you are introducing livestock.
