Hello everyone I am having trouble with my ballast overheating and turning off. The ballast gets extremly hot and in about 1 hour it gets too hot and turns off. Seems to be wired exactly how the diagram shows it and the wires are not getting hot. I have 2 Aquabrite 48inch T12 VHO bulbs hooked up to a Valmont Electric bonus line ballast. The ballast says it is for use with 2 F48PG17, F48T12/VHO, F48T12/SHO or F48T10 MA lamps. The bulbs light up fine, just wondering if the ballast is bad or the wrong type. HELP ME PLEASE

i've never heard of valmont ballasts before, but it sounds like it's toast.
the person to ask would be "liveforphysics" he modifies and makes his own ballasts, mabye he'll see this post:)

Ok, I have never heard of or taken apart this type of ballast. So, first of all, does it say "rapid start" "programed rapid start" "hybrid" or "instant start". Those all have different trouble shooting methods.

Second, is this a new install that has never functioned without overheating? Or is this something that used to work that now overheats and shuts down?

If anyone can answer your question liveforphysics can he is incredible with that stuff.

It is a rapid start ballist, but I personally have never seen it function without overheating.
