I had some GHA on one of my fans so I put it in a bucket with a 50/50 water/vinegar solution last night and let it run. The algae is still green today. Is there a better way to do this? The fan is particularly difficult to take apart, so letting it run in a solution is preferable.

Uhh, what kind of fan is this?

When I think of a "fan", I think of something that blows air.

I get really hot water, almost boiling, mix in some Marine Algaefix from API and soak my powerheads (I am assuming that is what you meant), and run them for about an hour. I then run them in RODI water for about 10 min. It kills evreything on the powerheads. I only do two at a time from each side of the tank.

Yes powerheads, but not the standard box with two holes, they are "fans" one is a koralia, i forget the other one.

Maybe you could post some pics, I have Koralia powerheads, but never heard of them referred to as fans.

Ahh, a prop type powerhead.
I'd use straight vinergar, soaking them overnight.
If you don't have anything else to keep flow in the tank, do 1 at a time.

It seems to have worked. I ran them in pure vinegar for about 18 hours, then scrubbed with a brush and they are clean! Then I tested my phosphates and saw that it was at almost 1 ppm... So I bought a phosphate 150 today and hopefully my gha problem will be reduced. :)
