Here are some photos I took tonight to show the force of the new Vortech pump. Ignore the ugly coralline that I have growing everywhere. This was on the high setting and the Vortech is mounted about 6 - 7" below the surface of the water. It really moves some water...

awesome dood !!!
I bet Krish is jelous of that Coralline :D .
I'm glad you got it and that it's working wonders :), now just don't try to dry up Sophie's hair with it and you'll be all set :D.

i wouldn't wish coralline on anyone - it's a pain....everybody is like "oh how do i get corraline to grow - please please grow'. it's terrible stuff but yes there are much worse things.

LOL!!! .
Well you're right at least you don't have red bugs or flatworms or anything that is trying to eat your corals :) .

i've been through those....

now i'm fighting this red cotton candy algae looking stuff. i think i'm going to have to buy a turbo snail or two to finally get rid of it. well it won't be making the transfer to the new tank either so i know i'll be rid of it there. :)

i pulled about a pound of it out today. it's growing in my overflow and that is the only place. well it was in my sump and took over my chaeto so i removed that. i turned off the lights in the sump and it slowly died.

damn stuff is hard to get rid of. when you remove it it shoots off little parts of itself which regrow. now i put a filter sock on the drain line and that catches most of it.

oh wwouu dood it seems like a tough one :( .
are you sure the snails would eat it? to bad urchins don't eat that because that'd be faster.

Hey man.. I've noticed to resist the pull from the surface, if you turn the wet side around a bit, so that the wider piece of plastic in the intake is there, it prevents it from sucking down as much water from the surface somewhat...

Matt is there an area on the housing where there are no inlet slots like on a tunze? If you put your housing on so that is up toward the surface, should help get rid of that vortex.

thanks guys! yeah i figured that out before i took the photos but i did that intentionally to show how it can push a lot of volume.

yeah, there is an area of housing that is solid so you can direct that upwards so it doesn't intake water on that side. seems like they've thought of everything.

hey josh - did your vortech have the vibration the first couple of days? mine vibrates some on high and not sure if it's because it has no broken in or if i don't have the magnets properly aligned. the instructions say to wait a few days.

Matt did you get the wireless controller too?, and how do you like it? I run three tunze 6100 and am very interested in these. The Tunzes have so much wiring and ballast and boxes, it would be nice to get rid of all that. Also these look like they intrude on the space in the tank less also?

Hey John,

The wireless controller and the battery back up are not out yet. once the wireless controller is going into beta or about to be released i am going to try to get one. i definitely want it.

well the vortech has a small power box like a laptop and it also has a controller which has 2 lights on it along with a rotating switch to control the rpm of the pump. it's relatively small though. i don't know how large the ones on the Tunze are though.

The Vortech takes up less space inside the tank than a maxi-jet. Definitely a lot less space than my SEIO. I like it and so far my corals are liking it.

I'll try to take some pictures of the power box and the controller box and post them so you can see the size.

Yes... Mine was a little noisy the first couple of days, but after it ran fully centered, it eventually went silent.
