what do you think is the ideal movement system for a 75 gal with sps currently have a pair of rio power heads 1400s but not sure if this is good enough also have return from sump but thats not a lot of flow any suggestions ?

Here is a Idea. A couple modified Maxi jet 1200 Mods (about 2000gph) on two swirler Steiners. The cost is cheap. You do not have to drill. You have close to 4000 gph of alternating flow. I am considering doing this. I may just get two magnet holders and two Maxi Jet 1200 mods.

sorry wasnt thinking you mean closed loop right not to sure how to do it my tank has an overflow if that helps i dont know not to familar with it

Is your tank drilled? If not modifing a couple
MJ 900s or 1200s would be more than enough. 900s 1500gph, 1200s 2000gph. 900s would probly be your best bet. I did some for a friend in her 120g and she said they were perfect, almost to much

I have a 75 as well and I have 1 heavy duty powerhead and 2 small powerheads. Sorry not sure how much they flow as I got them all used. From my experience I would guess the big one flows 400-500 gph and the smaller ones 100 gph. So I am only turning over my tank 8-10x per hour. I just got my first piece of acro last night. I think I am going to need more flow, but I am going to watch it for a few days and see how it looks. I think I am going to upgrade the small powerheads to med or large. I don't have a sump or fuge though so I am moving less water than some other people. My tank is mixed and I don't want to drastically change anything as everything else is doing so well. I will keep you up to speed as to how mine is doing. Krish mentioned having 100x turnover at one point. I think most people for SPS have about 25x?? Can anyone verify that?? Also I had a powerhead that oscialated but quit rotating after about a year. Are those better than nothing for randomizing flow?? The tank really seemed to like it back when the oscilation worked.

Have you tried taking it apart and cleaning it. You might be able to put in a tub of water and vinegar and letting it run for a while. I might start working. Could possibly have calcium built up in it. The vinegar will desolve it. Creating flow in your tank is always a good idea. Just make sure it isn't directed right at your lps or softies.

Hello,
I recommend 20-30 times tank turn-over for SPS corals. Maxi-Jet model 1200 produces 295gph and a model 900 235gph.
For a 75 gallon with a sump a Mag 9.5 for the sump return and 3 Maxi-Jet 1200's should get you where you need to be if you are stocking with frags. A Seio 1500 could be added later as the corals grow into colonies or if you start with colonies.

HTH,
Kevin
