on my one tank i have a wet dry aquaclear filter my question is can you take out the sponge between the main part where the bio balls were and the return side i already took out the bio balls a long time ago.

Yes you can...Alot of the time people will remove all of their sponges where possible to help with water quality because if the sponges aren't cleaned/ changed every 2-3 days, the trapped waste begins to rott and degrades water quality. I know on some wet/dry's there is a sponge right before the last chamber to catch micro-bubbles so they won't be transferred into the main display. If this is the case in your setup and you want to remove the sponge, then you "may" have to do something differently to prevent micro-bubbles from getting into the return chamber:)
