had not looked at my tank for a few days and this morning I noticed this:

Yea its an algae, nt sure of the type though, I have it in my tank, slow grower and usually just covers the surface and doesnt grow very high off it.

Off hand it looks like calcareous red alge, Rhodophyta, and similar to the species Mesophyllum sp

I got the same stuff, I can see noticable growth every 4-5 days, I now have a few 1"x2" patches growing from almost nothing, it builds little shelves and they each get about the size of dimes. Looks cool to me, doesn't seem to be hurting anything. I have noticed the last few days my 2" emerald crab really likes to pick and eat at it, but I think it's growing faster than he can eat it.
