Purchased a ETSS skimmer used. When I first set up my skimmer I set the water line to right at the start of the riser tub and the end of the black box (per the manual). My riser would turn brown within a few days from the ETSS label all the way up to the top. I adjusted it a little and have the water level about 1/4" into the riser and noticed it seems the bubbles are super wet up to the ETSS label and I am not getting near as dark skimmate. Shoud I have it this way or the other way where I was cleaning it weekly. Which way is better??

Here is the old way I had it set, that brown is only a weeks worth of build up

Marinelife,

I have one of the old ETSS 750 Dual Injector Skimmer (Now, its the 800). Converted the injectors to Beckets, and really like it!

As for where you set it... depends on if you like the drier skinmate, or wetter. Personally, I like to skim wet. My feelings are that I can pull out more of the detritus out of the water coloum, skimming wet. Of course, thats my personal experience... and hopefully you'll receive more input here from others.

For best results, I think that you should plan on cleaning every 5-7 days, for peak peformance. I use ETSS Skimmers about 90% of the time on my installs. Looks like a 1400? NICE! Also, play with how many balls in the downdraft tubes.

Good luck,
Jason

Is it a reef devil model?I am gonimg to install it to my 120 G set up I plan! Also a friend of mine installed it with a 2500EHIEM pump and he had to almost turn the air intake off, in order not to throw all the tank water out in the skimmer drain,.......if that helps!
