Although Ive been around RF for a while now Ive only delt with marine fish. Ive never really delt with Anemones before. My question is: Now that Im getting the hang of it I would really like to get an Anemone but Im not sure what my best bet would be. I have good lighting and I have good water flow and I was told that these are the most importnat things I had to worry about. My water is good (RODI) and I do water changes evry week. Ive seen many nice Anemones but I want to get the easiest one to care for to start off. I want to get the hang of this before I get into anything very delicate. What do you guys suggest?

I would suggest a Rock Flower. They are not as aggressive and love imbedding themselves in the substrate. But that is my expierence with them. Others may have another opinion.

do you want it for your clownfish?? if that's a yes then definetly i'd do a little searching on what clown hosts what :).
My experience with my long tentacle anemone is ...it's to cute :D ... no actually they don't move alot, it hasn't split in the almost 2 years that i've had it, my ocellaris clown decided to host it a couple of months ago :D (it took her quite sometime hehe), in a few... i really like my anemone :) .

Are any anenomes less agressive than others? I read that the BTA/quadricolor (is that two types, or one?) is/are good for beginners. If I had one of these and a hosting clown, how much danger would there be of other animals falling prey to the anenome?

It is for my clown. I have a Maroon Clownfish. I saw a real cool lookin bubble anemone at my lfs. I def want one that my clown will like but I also dont want to get in over my head with this. I would like to start easy.

Yes they are very aggressive:oops: I lost a few corals falling onto them.
Read the other thread today about one eating a Butterfly. They are nasty! http://www.reeffrontiers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22578
RBTA or GBTA would be my rec.

< As I said I never had a Problem with them in 16 years. They always lay in the substrate in my tanks, But others may have had problems. Anytime you keep one any type of anemone they can be hazardous. But I have found Rock flowers to be the best for me.

Besides good lighting and water flow your water parameters need to be stable. I would recommend a RBTA also.

Do clowns like rock flowers? Also, what about bubble anenomes? Are these difficult to care for? Do clowns like these? Last question!!!!! : What is/are RBTA?

Hey Roly I just thought I would give you a thumbs up for digging into what to keep rather than just buying one, all reef keepers should follow your example.
RBTA=Red Bubble Tip Anemone (I think I'm right, someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Thanks. Ive messed up before and I dont want to do that again. Last time I just did something without research... ICK!!!!

one thing about rose bubbles is that they like to wonder when first put in the tank, they also split from time to time and they can take over your tank :D .... just so you know.

If you dont over feed them they tend not to split.

...so they're like those little fuzzy creatures on Star Trek...the Trouble with Tribbles....a fat tribble becomes many tribbles.
