I just gotta ask.

Flakes
Pellets
Frozen
etc..

Which food is most likely to spike phosphates in our aquariums?

I personally feed frozen formula 1 most of the time, but i toss in some flakes and pellets from time to time.

don't mean to get of subject, but. i just bought some formula 1 and was just wondering how you feed this. it is held together with a gel and dosnt thaw. do you just chop it up? i have been feeding mysis and just swiched to the formula 1. also when i was feeding the mysis i had my phosphates at zero now it has gone up to .5 ppm. your thoughts please.

Aye that could be a good side topic.

This topic came up on another board and someone was asking about phosphates and i mentioned how flakes and pellets were one of the worst.

Yeah i heard about frozen foods needing to be rinsed because of the binding agent put into the mix. I typically just flake off my formula 1 and toss it in too.

I think you got the Formula One High Volume Protein. I use it time to time, I usually just break it with my thumb in a shot glass after it's thawed. Keep eyes on your skimmer when you feed High Volume Protein food, my skimmer goes crazy.

it dosnt say high protein. all it say's is formula 1 super color enhancing for carnivorous/ omnivorous fish w/ gel binder, stabilized vitamin c and other immune boosters. anyways, basicly you just shave some off let it thaw in some water and throw it in?

I used some in my DIY food. Just threw it in with everything else in the processor and I noticed that when I feed the mix, I see little fuzzy chunks of the Formula 1 floating around. I rinse the mix in RO/DI water and then feed to rinse as much of the binder away as possible.

Instead of feeding formula one and worrying about the gel binder; mix a few different cubes of single ingredients together i.e mysis, spirulina brine shrimp, and plankton. Depending on what frozen food you use you wouldn't really need to rinse it. :D
