im runing a metal halide with vho's but im thinking of getting t5's what would be best vho's or t5's

T5s will be much better than Vhos. They're actually very comparable to 250MHs as long as the tank is less than 20" deep. I run a Tek 5, 6 bulb unit on my 75 and my Clams, SPS and Sebae anemone are quite happy.

No, they aren't cheap. If you're just using the T5s as actinic supplements, it won't be as expensive. If you're changing out your whole lighting system for T5s, it's a bit more expensive. Retrofit kits for canopies are getting quite a bit cheaper though. Which ever way you go, the most important thing with T5s is that each bulb has an individual reflector, or a reflector that's "gull wing" shaped and bends around each bulb. There are a lot of inexpensive T5 fixtures that can be had through Ebay that do NOT have individual or bent reflectors. Stay away from them. IMO, Tek5 is one of the best T5 units out there.
