I love this snail had it for a while now. I love looking at the red foot and wonder what type it is. It's shell is also cool 1/2 black 1/2 white. Does anyone know it's name ?

Looks like a conch (most likely a horse, Pleuroploca gigantea) but a pic of the topside would help as well as the opening when it's retracted into the shell.

Where's the rock from?

Cheers

Beautiful snail. I recently had very bright green snails appear in my tank, and are rapidly reproducing. However, my favorite are my small, dull looking snails that appear to spin a thread from behind and slowly travel the open water of the tank like a spider or something. Anybody know what they are?

steve the rock is Fiji in other places in the tank it is tonga and a few odds and ends of other types, I edited/added the topside photo . And it does not have the 2 eyes and long nose of a conch I was thinking a Nassarius but I have not found info an a red footed Nassarius with this kind of shell ?

Its whorl stucture makes it look like some kind of Buccinidae, like Cantharus sp

Definately not the species I suggested then. The ridge detail on the top of the shell is quite pronounced, I would be more inclined to go with Fasciolariidae

steve-s
that is one huge shell list did not see it in Fasciolariidae but now i've got thousands to look at never saw a list so big for them before :) thanks paul

Boomer
I will look more into that species as well and also at the website on the photo thanks :)

Paul,

Sorry, I was posting from work (shhh..), didn't have time to narrow it down any further. I was moreso posting that as "food for thought". I will see if I can narrow it down some unless Boomer has some idea's(?).

Cheers

Not me Steve I hate Id'ing crabs and shells :D But if he took it out, cleaned all the crap of it, with a new photo plus a photo of the lip, then maybe ;)

To be honest I haven't been able to narrow it down much myself. It does have alot of similarities to the Latirus sp., unfortunatley looking further it also has similarities to Columbellidaei. I agree with Boomer though, if you could clean the snail up a bit and get some "out of tank pics" at different angles especially the aperture with an apposing color background it might make a difference.

Cheers
Steve
