first you need to find out why you have hair and cyano. How are your water parims? Nitrates, Phosphates? How often do you do water changes and how long has your tank been set up? The best thing to do is get your levels in check before thinking about something to et the algae because chances are if your water chem is out of wack you'll be fighting this algae for a while.:)

Are you using tap water or ro water? sometimes you'll get this algae in a new set up. Just keep checking your parims and keep doing water changes.

ro/di how long tell it will go away or could i just get something to eat it then when it is gong i can just feed it micro algae.

as long as your levels are ok, I'd just keep doing water changes and wait it out. If you think that you need to add more to your bio load, then maybe a yellow tang or a seahare. Understand that once the hair algae is gone the sea hare will probably starve to death. As far as I know, there is nothing that will eat cyano algae. If it were my tank I wouldn't add anything, i'd just keep chnging the water and it will go away in time.

Thumperss, it won't go away until you get rid of whatever is causing it. It's not there for no reason. Something is causing it. You state above that are your levels are good. Please tell us what you test for and what your test results for each are. That might help us to help you find a solution. You mention that you have 4 powerheads. What size are they? It's important to know as much about your tank as possible to help you find a solution. Cyano bacteria can usually be taken care of by increasing flow and cutting back on nutrients with either less feeding, more water changes or both. Is the Cyano growing in a particular area? Try removing as much of it as you can by siphoning it out. Then try and increase flow in that particular area. With the Hair Algae, I'd recommend removing as much as you can manually and really try to get us your test results and information on what exactly you test for.

We need to find the cause of the problem!!! The reason your levels are good is that the algae is consuming the phosphates, nitrates, so typically you won't read anything when you are testing.
Can you give us a rundown of your tank? What type of substrate do you have, do you have a sump, what is your bioload etc. Up until we then we can only guess as to what the problem is.

I had a small GHA problem recently. I would remove the algae with my fingers and it would always grow back in the same spots. I installed a 4 gallon fuge (on a 55g tank) with a chaeto ball and the algae no longer grows. My lettuce slug has taken care off all the leftovers. My excess nutrients come from feeding 2x a day (I have fish that require it) and my RO/DI water is not 100% free of nutrients.

Finally feeding is brought up
What are you feeding? Type and brand
You will be amazed at what is in the foods you feed and what it will grow.

Also Brandon what is your skimmer doing? 1 quart a day???
