Caulerpa probably has a more beneficial effect on nutrient levels than chaeto, but you also have to put a lot more effort / maintenance into caulerpa or it will spawn and completely ruin your tank in short order. Chaetomorpha is only slightly less of a nutrient remover, and I've never heard of it causing other problems due to lighting, tank parameters, etc.

Diversity in your sump is what I believe is key. Deep sand bed and a few different types of macro alage. As was previously mentioned caulpera (feather, razor, grape) and/or chaeto. Those should help export excess nutrients in your tank.

I stuck with chaeto only and am happy. Your skimmer should do most of the work anyway.

I read about caulerpa and how it can spawn in your tank, uhh no thank on that stuff.
