around there really
ok i tested my ph and my alk in my reef tank, and they are fine

i dont know what my mag is

ive read over ALOT of the articles on how to dose that you guys gave me, but i dont have the $$$ right now to go buy the kent reef cal like recommended, all i have is the seachem reef cal.

so what would happen if i added a cap ful of that, seeing that my cal may be running low according to the cheap api test that i tested with

could i do a small 1 cap dose then test my cal after about a hour to see the effect, or is there another way????

Do you have sps or clams. If I couldnt test for some reason I would rely solely on water changes instead of dosing.

huh??? i dont understand the ????

don that dont sound like a bad idea i may have to take back all the stuff i just went out a bought!!!!

Sorry, Not sure what a happened there...

Where are your current levels at? I was trying to see where they where so even if you did dose, you might be okay.

I agree...Depending on how much calcium etc your tank is consuming, you sometimes don't even need to supplement anything. A good example was my 24gal Aquapod. I never had to supplement anything like I did before with my previous tank's. Just water changes alone with Instant Ocean weekly kept everything in balance, but it is not the same for all tanks. However, Don made a great suggestion for the meantime:)

Trill anytime you are asking about dosing or adding some sort of additive or about water problems include your water parameters, it will make your life and ours much easier. You will always be asked water your parameters are. You will get the right answer to your question much faster. Thanks. It only took me a couple months here to figure that out.

Seachem Reef Calcium (liquid) is a Polygluconate-Based Supplement. It is not recommended for adjusting your Calcium level. The use of a Calcium Chloride or equivalent supplement is a better solution. If you don't have the cash right now, just keep up on weekly water changes. I'd pick some Kent Turbo Calcium when ever you get the chance. I, personally, use Prestone Driveway Heat. I can get it for under $10. ;)

oops sorry guys, yeah always leaving my params does make since

there 196 ppm, alk

300 to 320 ppm cal

about 8.2 to 8.4 ph

0 nitrite, and ammonia

i think i may try dosing a little with the kent marine cal concentrated!!!

Yeah, that would surely bring the calcum level up. Make sure you target 380-450ppm. And, always use the calculator. :)

ive used the kent marine, at like 1/2 table spoon for the last 2 days, and my cal is still low

so today i added a 1/2 tbl spoon, and a 1/4 table spoon

we will see what happens

cal was still 300 to 320

could my mag be low or sometrhing

is there something that would be causing my cal not to raise???

hopefully not, hopefully i just aintadd enough

i wanna start out dosing SSSSSSlllloooooooooowwwwwww

man the mag and iodine, and cal tests are kinda $$$$

i gotta stick wit what i got for now dag gone it

i think the cal test i got will work for, even if it aint accurate itll satill tell me if my cal is going up or down, besides i been reading salifert test are having probs

it looks like my sps is doing great still!!!

how can you tell if its growing????

only by pics????

You need to use the Calculator to dose. Don't be afraid. It will give you the exact value to dose so you won't overdose. I use it all the time without failure. And by all means, don't dose what it says in the instructions on the bottle (or guess). This is asking for failure. And yes, your Mag might be low and not allowing the Calcium to come up.

1. Enter total water volume of your system
2. Enter 320ppm as current Ca level
3. Enter 420ppm as desired Ca level
4. Choose your appropriate product
5. Click Calculate :)

If left for long, your SPS won't be very happy unless you get the Ca up. At least 380ppm. Target 420ppm like the values I gave you for the calculator.

it says i should add 68 tsp of the kent cal, and i mean does it mean i should do this over a period of a week, day month hour or what??

ive been adding cal everyday for the last 2 or 3 days now and it seems like it may even be going down

today ive added 2 whole tsp and a half of a tsp and im about to go re-test now

i also checked out the cal in my 125 gallon fowlr tank and it was lower than in my reef i think it was like 280 or 260 so i added some kent cal in there also, just to help with coraline algae build up, cause i love the purple stuff.

after i check my cal tonight if its still low i may not add anymore cal cause im doing a water change tomorrow, and im hoping that will help my mag just a lil bit

then ill begin again from there

trillian, PM me with your total water volume size and current calcium level. I want to double check that number. ;)
