where did all the collonista snails go?

so I had hundreds and liked them but now the big ones are gone; I say big but they of course are quite small. Now I have a whole bunch of little ones growing.

The weird thing is that I can't see (or find) any of the shells from the last crop...

I did see my Valentini Puffer knock some off the glass to eat but he couldn't have eaten the shells to, could he?
 
Hmm, I did a little reading and it sounds like he may be eating the shells too. His teeth never stop growing, like a gerbil. Munching on shells is part of his routine and keep his teeth from getting too long.

"Hundreds" seems like a lot of snails to eat though, I wouldn't be surprised if you found a snail graveyard at some point.
