I am in the process of moving my stuff from my 72 bow to my 110 tank (60x18 footprint) so, I am looking for more live sand to add to what I have now (aragonite type). I am in the everett area and looking to get some online like petsolutions.com

looking at 30lb bag of carib sea aragonite for 29.99...if I get min $49, I get free ship.

just wondering if I can find some locally first...is it better that way?

So called LS is just sand that has bacteria in it, you could just get some regular reef sand and then add a little bit from some ones tank to seed it, or you could add a product like Bacteria in a bottle to it.

If you are adding to what you already have because of the larger footprint then you dont need live sand. You can put dry sand in mixed with your current sand and it will become live in no time.

I have a bunch of sugar size sand you can have. I just broke down a tank and now I have it in a bucket with a pump and water for circulation just waiting for someone who might need it.

Of course, just "moving" a sand bed with cause a loss of life. When I moved my 100G reef (when we purchased a new home), my system never fully recovered because the longterm stratification of the sand bed was mixed/inverted/disturbed greatly by the move. You have to move, but expect the disruption and be prepared to respond with say an extra water change or two and anticipate some time to remature, etc. At least this was my experience, perhaps others have done better!
