I'm switching out my bulbs on my 150W X 2 sunpod and have narrowed my choices to either the 150W Megachrome Marine (13000K), or the Phoenix 14k. I want to know if anyone can tell me which has the higher PAR? I tried looking up on Sanjay's site, but I do not see the Phoenix listed there. I know the Phoenix is more blue, but I have 2 T5 HO actinics to make the 13k look better if need be. I'm using it on a deeper tank, so I would like to get the bulb with higher par. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.

Gord.

I run 2x150w HQI Phoenix 14K myself. To me, they're too blue. However, I'm a fan of true 10K + actinic. I get phenomenal growth, but I don't have any sorts of numbers I can share, and all this light is over a 38g.

I, too, have been frustrated to have never seen SanJay's tests on the Phoenix. I'll tag along to see if anyone knows anything else. Otherwise, I'll help you from experience in any way I can.

I have used Phoenix bulbs since they hit the market but in 250 watt range. I like the bluish coloring, it keeps me from using any lighting to supplement. I have never taken a PAR test but I know I get fantastic growth and great colors with Phoenix bulbs. They are what I plan to use on my current project.

Yeah...its so funny about the Phoenix bulbs. People either love them or hate them. Its so hard to judge, plus I hear they can look different based on what ballast your running. I'm doing mainly LPS tank as I'm not much into SPS, so I got 2 150W MH on a 29" deep tank. I know its a bit underpowered, but for LPS I think I'll be fine. My buddy has the same setup on his tank, also 29" tall and his tank has been doing great for last 6 months with mainly LPS. He uses the 13k Geismann bulbs though, but I find the colour is kind of drab. Thats why I need to know if the Phoenix bulbs would be as good as those bulbs for this depth of tank, and PAR is quite important. I know I can use those 13k bulbs, but if the Phoenix has the same or close PAR I would prefer to go with them so I don't need to add actinics with my sunpod unit. Was hoping someone could give me their experience maybe having used both. Thanks.

Gord.
