Can anyone tell me what this stuff is? It's white and fuzzy and there are several "mounds" as you can see. It appeared randomly one day and now has taken over this small piece. It has/had cloves covering the whole rock. I haven't done or added anything to the tank other than a small frag of GSP from my other tank at home but the GSP looks very healthy and it was dipped before adding. Not sure what to do with it. I took it out of the tank for now and have it sitting in a tupperware with tank water in it.

My wife thought I should mention that I have some florida ceriths that have some "hair" growing on them and she thought it might be related. Here is one guy that was out this AM so I thought I would snap a shot to compare:

Could they be pineapple sponges? They are very soft when I plucked them off with tweezers.

Actually looks like a sponge to me, but not necessarily a pineapple one. The pineapple sponges are solo, this looks like some sort of mat-like sponge. Easiest way to tell is to touch it. How does it feel when you touch it with your finger?

Also, if it *is* a sponge, having it out of the water as you have it in the picture may have killed it off for you :) Depends on how long it was out of water and how hardy the type is - again, *if* this is a sponge.
