white hard stuff growin on my live rock

i have white hard stuff grown in my live rock ..pet store said its normal but looks as though rock is dyin..like most of my live rock have that over the rock like 60% is covered in that is that normal..looks to me as though its dying..?thanx

did your rock start out another color?
purple, green, brown?

More than likely the white hard stuff you are reffering do is dead coraline algae. It is normal to have a very significant die off of coraline when moving live rock to your home. It will grow back very quickly. It actually grows best in lower light, So if you really want to have it take off, dont run all your lights till it gets spreading well. HTH STeve
