why won't they open

ok this are my lights:
i have 1-Hamilton MH 175w 14k blue 2-Ushio uhi-s MH 175- 10k
right now i'm just running the Ushio one the other side is not working well and also because if i run both at the same time my tank could get up to 86.
Now here is the thing when i was running my Hamilton one the zoos used to be all open, but my xenas wouldn't pulse, so i switched to the Ushio bulb and now the xenas would pulse like crazy and almost all my zoos are open too, but i have noticed that a little batch of my zoos ( i really like this zoos :doubt: ) won't open, do you guys think it's because of the lights? or do you think its something else?

so you used to have sevaral lights on and now you only keep a few on because of heat concerns and wonder why your zoo's arent open is this correct? Well I would get a cheap fan (wallmart) atop the tank quick (for your heat issue) and figure out whats wrong with the lights as constantly changing can shock them but zoo's sometimes close all on there own for a little while

Hello Spongebob lover, I just joined a few days ago. Been reefing 12+ years and I am a major zoo fan.

There are a host of reasons why your colony won't open. I'm sure you are already aware that zoos are one of thee most hardiest corals in the deep. They can and will adapt to most any type of lighting. I agree with Plack in that a rapid switching of lights could affect zoo polyp expansion, but if this were the case in your situation, more than one small colony woiuld be affected. I don't believe that this is the cause of the retraction you are experiencing.

Could you tell us when the retraction began?
Do you have any other zoos? If so, are they far from this colony?

Zoos that are closed for a few days to a week is natural believe it or not. Periodically zoos will retract from a few days to a week, it is a means by which they use this time to clean themselves externally, it's very true. When polyp retraction occurs, the main concern should be physical changes in the stolons themselves. As long as there are no visable signs of decay, flaking off of tissue, collasping of the polyp, shrinkage, bacterial infection or fungus, a collection of blackish dark greenish brownish or whitish deposits on the polyps, there's nothing to worry about. Giving it the sniff test is always good as well. Just remove the colony and smell it, if it has a foul odor, it is in decline and you must deal with it rapidly. Surgery followed by a dip is the only thing that will save it. In all of the senarios above, the polyp must stay in line with a very good current.

If it has only been a few days and your zoos are still intact, I wouldn't worry at this juncture. Another concern I would have if more of your colonies were affected would be zoo predators. Forgot to ask, what type of fish do you have?

ohh woou sorry mucho reef if i didnt' anwer before.
i guess i've been just totally hoping they will open, it's been quite sometime like about way more than 3 weeks.
I got a new light bulb and i moved them closer to my powerhead.
i've been checking my wate parameters and so far everything is normal.
Now the thing is since that time a little colonia hydroid grew up in the middle of the little green colony, but they seem to kind of semi open now, the problem is that now the rest of them are starting to open only half way i mean seriously the whole rock that is full of different colored zoos is semi opening.
so yeah this has been going for about 4 weeks, i also have some more in another rock but those seem to be doing fine.
for fishes i have 1 six line, 1 clown fish, 1 damsel, and 1 new emerald crab, and about 10 snails dood.
