I have 6 small blue LED lights that turn on when my regular lights go out on my tank. I don't really use them for anything except i think the blue glow looks really neat in the tank when its dark. Can the light coming from these LEDs cause algea to grow? I ask because I have a small problem with brown algea growing. Thanks

That's a good question and I seriously doubt you'll find any supporting data to validate any position on that issue. Having said that, I would think that any light could provide photosynthetic properties sufficient enough to promote the growth of algae.

Those are WAY too dim to actually promote any substantial growth. Most LED's are ~1W, and unless pointed directly at a spot of algae, and are much closer than what most people have them at, they don't contribute. Also, the color (Kelvin) is way off too. I think algae needs around 6K-10K to grow, while your blue LED's will be in the 20K+ range.
