Sorry to bother you guys about a windows problem, but im a little worried. I just upgraded my cable modem today and now when logging onto my computer its telling me:

"Message from Microsoft to inform you about a virus detection on Date/Time

STOP! WINDOWS REQUIRES IMMEDIATE ATTENTION!
The registry is corrupt and has errors

goto www.WindowsXPCleaner.com and these messages will stop.

Is this a scam or for real?

Sorry and Thanks
Jiddy

Definately a SCAM... via Spyware!

Trying to get you to purchase something to "clean" your computer, from the garbage they put on it.

Do the Adaware SE software (free download)... and all should be well again.

Hi there.

I prefer running "Hijackthis" and "SearchNDestroy" in Safe-Mode, along with the already mentioned Ad-Aware (lavasoft). Ad-Aware will not get rid of all of it at times.

If you need further info, I will send a PM.

Best,
Ilham

Well i DL'd adaware and it finds the problem, i tell it to delete them (they are a cookie- i delete all cookies as well) but then the messages pop up again, if i do another search, adaware finds more cookies in the cookie folder

You have an open port that is used by a messaging program. More commonly it's an issue with MSN messenger. The problem was fixed with WinXP SP2 so if you have not upgraded, do so. Also check to see if your firewall is active.

You can also do a fix manually.
you can just turn off the Messenger Service. To do so, click Start, then Run, enter "services.msc" and click OK. Scroll down to "Messenger", select it, right-click and then choose Properties. Under startup type, choose
'Disabled' and then choose the 'Stop' button. After the service is stopped, click OK. Nothing in Windows or any real third-party applications should be effected by this.
You could also turn on the Windows XP Firewall to kill these as well (SP2 will also turn it on).

Cheers
Steve

well my computer crashed and now i have to goto the public library to use the internet, do you think it was related? I try to startup my computer and it doesnt get past the first "HP INVENT" screen

If you can go to a friends computer and download these... burn it to a cd then run it to your computer.... You can do this by pressing F8 while rebooting to go to safemode... I dont know about HP specific... but if you can go to safe mode in any other means, that is your ticket...

If your succesfull then install all of these... one at a time and run and scan before you go to another software to install..

good luck...

Here is the link... this some of my collections to fight back spyware... I do this a lot to my friends and to all my customers... they are all free... And I try to update them as much as I can...
