What are the dangers to cutting pulsing xenia in the tank?

I have a stalk attached to a rock where I don't want it, but I also don't want to remove a bunch of rock just to get this one out of the tank. What sort of damage can I do to other corals and fish if I cut the xenia off the rock and then remove it immediately from the tank?

Me too! However the small portion left on the rock can regenerate like it did in my tank!

Its like a bad B-horror movie from the 50-60's. Welcome to my nightmare. Think of the bodysnatchers meet the wax museum.

If you're able to get something under the edge of the xenia, you may be able to peel it away from the rock. Try rubbing the very edge with your finger (think: trying to get a sticker/decal off of its backing paper) to roll it back, or something along those lines.

i've had success with coaxing them onto other, smaller rocks that can then be easily moved. \
i cut xenia alot back in the day and never had any noticable ill effects on the rest of the tanks inhabitants.
but, as stated earlier, if you leave any behind, it will often regrow (if that's a word)

i use a credit card to peel it off of the rock similar to what sherman's saying. It has always worked for me and it should work for you too.

I just use a razor blade and try to cut as close to the base as possible. I've never had any issues with it (that I know of).

The only thing is... if you don't collect the xenia you slice off, it just finds another place to attach itself. This happened to me once. I forgot to turn off the water flow. So when I sliced of the xenia it got blown everywhere. I tried to collect it all, but it wasn't easy. Some of it still ended up reattaching to other places throughout the tank. lol ::sigh::

well what I do :p.
i just pretty much use my fingers to peel it off from the rocks, i don't knwo if we're suppose to but it has worked for me.
