I'm concidering just building a zero edge tank for my new stand. Has anyone seen one in person. Maybe at a LFS or puplic aquarium that I can go see in person?

I have seen one in a lFS in Sacramento. They are cool however with the surface movement that we all like and the water falling over the edge it is harder to view your reef inside.

Why not start from scratch and build a square zero edge tidepool system. I can not even imagine a better clam setup!

That is sort of what I was thinking. 50" long 18" wide and 14" deep from 3/4 or 1" acrylic. I'd just like to see one that has been up for awhile to look for signs of water damage and things of that nature. It would be easy to build and Ive already figured out the problem associated with the return and using check valves. Should really be not that expensive and sort of cool. With that much surface area I should be able to get by without my chiller and maybe even switch over to less lighting. Couldnt really have that much in the way of flow but plenty for clams a few sps and colorful zoos.

Perhaps 24" wide to ensure room for any future LARGE Gigas or Squamosa.

Three sided or four?

I'm maxed out at 18" for the house that I live in. I think I'd just do it 4 sided even though it would go against a wall for now. This way I could plan for 4 sided viewing when we start house shopping next year. I just pitched the idea to the wife, we'll see what she thinks. I could do plenty of very cool maximas with a tank that size.:)

Don my friend, "when" you get it built, I insist on an invite to come see it. Might even bring along a "tank warming" clam:D

 Still have to convince the wife that a overflowing tank is a good idea. I can see alot of benefits. I'm a little concerned about the very low flow for a reef but I think alot can be overcome with a low flow closed loop. There really wouldnt much rock so wont need a bunch of outlets especially with the sand. Three eihem 1260's two for the closed loops at each end and a return might just do it.

Not a reef, a clam tide-pool! With tide-pool inhabitants. Blennys, shrimp, perhaps stars! The flow would be trumped by the awesome oxygen exchange. Bet the PH would stay very high with little concern.

I would want at least a sps or two but they could just be put in the highest flow areas and trimmed to remain smaller. More zoos and ricordia things like that.:)

What exactly is a 0 edge tank? Is it just a regular acrylic tank that has been polished really well on the corners? Excuse the question but we just don't have that sort or thing down south!

Water quietly decants down the sides. No splash, no salt creep as constantly rinsed sides. Very UN-kidsafe though grandpa.;)

I'm going to have that little monster fitted with a shock collar. Just kidding, he's got to learn sometime not to touch.
