    building a C2C?

Forgot to mention: This type of overflow is completely removable. I haven't had to yet thankfully, but if I need to take it out for some reason I just need to drain the water below the bulkhead line, take off the bulkheads, and the box can lift right out the top for cleaning, repair, etc. I've...

    building a C2C?

It's not as difficult as you may think, just build an acrylic box and match up a few holes with an extra bulkhead gasket! I've got a 360 gallon acrylic tank that I bought undrilled with no overflow of any sort (it has a very similar top brace). I added a quasi-coast-to-coast (half of the 8' tank...

    android vs. iPhone

I wonder if the Android or Apple markets have punch card reader functionality? I remember looking at my TI-83 graphing calculator when I bought one for a math class and thinking fondly of my first "computer", a TI-99/4a  Heck, for that matter, I remember when I was excited...

    android vs. iPhone

Ummm... Where the heck did you get that bit about Android being dual core? there isn't a single dual core phone out there at this time (a couple in testing however). Android isn't anything to do with hardware, it's the operating system... Different Android devices have VASTLY different specs...

    android vs. iPhone

The oddity about the N1 on Verizon's network is that the primary benefit of the phone is that it isn't tied to a specific carrier (although Tmobile does offer subsidized pricing on it for new activations) but the CDMA version of the phone coming to Verizon can't be used on any other carrier...

    android vs. iPhone

The nexus one by default (all Android devices I believe) allow multitasking, but I don't know if the verizon network itself places a limit on things like what you're wanting to do... I have my N1 on Tmobile (Even More Plus plan, unlimited phone / data / text for $79 a month and no contract) and...

    android vs. iPhone

I very much doubt it'll work at all over there... even in europe or china where they have more widespread cell coverage a new sim card would be required. The iphone isn't really a "world" phone since at&t uses a different frequency for their data / 3g network but voice should still work provided...

    android vs. iPhone

You can disable the sync settings, but really the only thing that gets sent to Google is the contacts list which merges with your contacts in Gmail. If you have and use a Gmail account then it's not really anything that is not already on their servers ;) The calendar can be replaced with a third...

    android vs. iPhone

Android market has no search function you say? Did you not notice the little magnifying glass at the top of the app window? Or push the "search" soft key found on any Android device? ;)

    android vs. iPhone

I have the new Nexus One android phone. My friend has an Iphone 3GS. Neither one of us has found a single thing that the Iphone does that the Nexus One can't do, often better. I like the Iphone and would have bought one had the N1 not been released when it was, but I hate the closed format of...

360 gallon logistical nightmare and no spare time!

I'm very happy with it :) I've had to clean the viewing panels at least once a week which is a pretty major chore, but if I run the magnet cleaner around it every day or two it's not as bad. A few months of this thing running and it looks like it adds around $100 per month to my power / water...

360 gallon logistical nightmare and no spare time!

Fine, here's a few shots I just took with my cell phone. And for those of you who have a LOT of time on your hands or voyeuristic tendencies, here's a link to my picasa album for the 360 gallon project. Every photo I've ever taken of the tank, build process, and things that are or have been...

360 gallon logistical nightmare and no spare time!

Crap, you mean I was supposed to keep this current? Oops! Tank is doing well, the sand has settled for the most part and is full of feather dusters and other strange critters although the Koralia 8 powerheads still move it around pretty good. My 20"+ RBTA liked the new lighting /...

360 gallon logistical nightmare and no spare time!

Just a quick update for those interested: I've still got all four of the big powerheads running and everything is settled. The water is clear, the sand is stable, the inhabitants are happy, and it's time to start adding more critters / corals and finishing the refugium setup. All the corals from...

360 gallon logistical nightmare and no spare time!

Woohoo! I've got all four of the Koralia Monstrosity 8 pumps running and the sand isn't getting blown around everywhere :D I had to point the two rear powerheads directly at the rock islands to break up the water flow while the other two are running 5" below the water surface parallel to...

    Lifegard scrath remover

Might want to pick up a bottle of Novus 3 and Novus 2 as well, those will get the panel almost crystal clear with some work. I've never had much luck with the "kits". They're only about $4 per bottle at Tap Plastics and Barrier Reef carries it as well if I remember correctly. The people at Tap...

    Cloudy tank...

Turn off all the pumps / powerheads for a day or two, then turn them back on one at a time over the course of a week or so. If you've got a sump, turn the return pump on first of course and point the return plumbing towards the surface of the tank so it doesn't stir up the sand. Wherever...

360 gallon logistical nightmare and no spare time!

Yeah, it's all cleared up now :) I've got the powerheads aligned so that there's minimal sand movement, and most of it occurs behind the rocks. Thankfully I didn't have to get rid of two of the pumps, I really like these things!

need to find a good lfs

Welcome to the area, I moved down here at the end of April / beginning of May. I've been to Indoor Reef a couple times just because it was close. Sadly, I've never once walked in there and been impressed. The tanks are usually quite dirty although they've had some interesting livestock the times...
