    Speaking of Harlequin Shrimp...

I love harlequins. I'm also a diver. There are starfish everywhere. So it was quite easy for me to take a small bit of leg and feed it to the harleys to see if they would, indeed, eat cold water sea stars. The answer is - yes, yes they do. Then my husband insisted on taking a whole sea...

Wooow... that's practically what I want MY tank to look like eventually =D Gorgeous!

    Brown Algae

Ok, I think the first order of business is to get a silica test kit, make sure that my distilled is indeed silica free. If that's the case, which I certainly hope it is, then the silica is probably leaching from the substrate. The substrate went dry for quite awhile before setting up this...

    Brown Algae

I have distilled readily available (in my lab, I used a TDS meter on it awhile back and it read 0) and only use that for tank changes/top-offs. The rocks in my tank are fairly old - I've had them for about 3 years now, but the tank itself has only been running (due to a breakage in the last...

    Brown Algae

So is there a particular way to reduce silicates then?

    Brown Algae

Grr, everything was sooo nice for awhile! I had an outbreak of brown slime-ish algae about a week ago. It's on the sand, some of the rocks, and wants to take over my zoas. I don't get it - PO4 is <.01, Nitrates were <20 (lowest that particular test went), Nitrites were 0... why would I get a...

    Bubbles

I just got a cpr hob refugium and I'm wondering if the bubbles are supposed to be coming out like this: While those are not what I think people consider 'micro-bubbles', what are the negative effects of microbubbles anyways?

    Phosban w/out a reactor?

I have a nano tank and there's just not much room for the phosphate reactor, which is sad as I just bought it new. But as the amount of media is so low, is it reasonable to just put it in a mesh bag and throw it in the sump? I could potentially hang the reactor in the sump by slinging it into...

Has anyone ever seen this in their tank

I love your daughter?'s voice 'Ew! What is that?' Funny :)

    Rocks turning yellow?

I had that stuff on the rock I got from Tampa Bay Florida. I don't know *what* it is exactly, but it was there during the cycling and gradually went away.

Mega-Powerful Nitrate and Phosphate Remover Replaces Skimmer, Refugium, Everything

Trido I think Santamonica already addressed this very video (see previous posts). I'm not an algae expert, but I assume the algae on your back wall isn't turf algae, and therefore it isn't the source of your STN'ing.

    What snail is this?

There's really not a lot in the tank yet since it's not very established. I haven't seen any 'baby' snails of any type at this point, but my limpets were my main worry, since they're nocturnal and black, therefore hard to find. I have already captured the snail though... I don't have a sump...

    What snail is this?

    Ahhhh! My poor limpets! :P

    What snail is this?

So odd that it hasn't fed on any snails yet then. Just not hungry?

    What snail is this?

Great find Boomer! So it IS a carnivore, too bad. I wonder what it eats primarily - if not snails/limpets, it will surely die in my tank (I know, you're all thinking I should just squash it anyways :P ).

    What snail is this?

Haha, born again vegan, nice :P Seriously though, there are snails all over nearby, and it's not doing a thing. I've only bought 20 snails, and one died (or was dead?) right away. I've been keeping track and counting all of them whenever possible. Have never seen all 19 at once, not...

    What snail is this?

Update on the guy: No shells (ie, dead snails) have been found. The snail in question is on a rock, perhaps munching on algae?

    What snail is this?

Might be on to something there... there's even one in that collection of images that's red with white specks! Mine is partially covered in coralline as well - I thought the first picture showed part of its shell broken but that's the coralline that's broken off. I can't find any info on what...

    What snail is this?

Ohhh, yeah. Looking at other tulip pictures (Fasciolaria tulipa), it certainly looks like this could be it. It eats snails... nice :P
