    New Skimmer!

I have the 180 and it skimm great. However, the Sicce psk 2500 pump kind of noisy and having a hard time finding a better replacement pump due to the tight fit. Other than that, a great skimmer.

    sicce voyage 4 powerhead ?

I tested both Koralia Evolution 1050 and Voyager 3 in my LFS, I like the Voyager better, more quite, always starts in same direction (so compatible with wave makers) vs Evolution make noise when it doesn't start right. I ended up picking up 4 Voyager 2, 3 is too much for my small 65G

    Freshwater vs Saltwater

I've kept FW tank for over 20 years, and sure it can get nasty algae problems just like any other SW tanks. Believe the major difference is whether it is a fish only tank or planted tank with high lights. When keeping a high tech planted tank, or make it worse, lets say along with discus, the...

Haha, at least I did one thing right! :) Poor me very limited on where and how large my tank is.....got a fierce tiger living with me. The main tank is just 65G 36 X 18 X 24. So it is basically same size, but taller.

Oh...that's super! I don't even have to worry about the amount of water being back siphoned until reaching that hole! Oh, how I love this forum and the nice people around!!

Hoho, I was sweating! :) Hmm....from calculation, the tank itself is 50G, 36 X 18 X 18 when fully filled. According to the LFS, it would be filled with between 8 - 10 inches, to match the desired level of the protein skimmer.

O....really.....then water will shoot out from the hole? I'm planning to drill the hole at the "horizontal" portion of the return nozzle and hook up the line that sucks air out from the hang-on overflow (if I decided that using that) so it acts like the air intake as with a powerhead and...

Made la. Don't tell me something wrong ah....... Forget about the different dimensions, the LFS re-arranged the different section size for me, but all sections are there just without bio-balls.

Hmm...I think I understand how nitrate is converted into nitrogen gas...I mean the basics, of course I don't really understand the real bio details behind it and I don't know the time involved. Ouch, even 2 months is too fast....ah ya. As mentioned way early on my post, I thought 1 month I can...

Here is the drawing of the sump. Please dis-regard the bio balls as that is scraped. So, with the baffles, water should remain at the Blue line level if the overflow stops? Only the return section will be emptied into the tank, right? Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Haha, newbie is newbie, glad that I asked. I know nitrate is an important issue in reeftank, what I don't know is anemone is a fragile inverts. Thought it would be ok if amonia and nitrite is 0. So I'll wait. Don't understand what you mean by basic water chemistry Before adding water? When I...

Yeah, thanks. I think I read that, to prevent reverse siphon, drill a hole at the return nozzle slightly below the water line so it will suck up air when reverse siphon occurs and reached that level, is that right?

Hmm....2 expert mentioned 'herbie' at the same time, something I really have to look into! Thanks!! Wonder how much extra they'll charge me if going that way...ouch! Sigh, no luck in finding a single place that I can pick up all my needed LR. Can't be lazy la, pick up some here and there...

Yeah, guess thats what I have to do, pick up couple pieces here and there. Hate to get live items on line. Tried getting some aquarium plants couple times and they arrive hardly resemble the pics on the site, I almost can't reconize what that are!

Oh...overflowed tank! That scare the **** out of me! If that even happens, my wife will kill me and I'll never be able to keep any aquarium forever! Yeah, cleaning of the LR, that's another thing worries me. I've been to quite a few LFS and I don't seems to find some good quality LR. There is...

Oh, NWDrive, what you mean by Full Siphon? There are different types of build in type? Drill a third hole? The LFS told me they'll add an extra tubing to dampen noise, but never mention drillig a third hole. In fact, there is only one hold, a 1 inch or 1.5 inch opening for the water to go down...

Haha, looks like I worried too much. Like I reply to ReefLogic, could you please explain a bit how you clean it? Yeah, I'm used to do water changes as I keep discuss. I'm changing that almost everyday! Planning to do this weekly with salt water (20%), you think I'll have a good chance without...

Good point ReefLogic! Thanks! The LFS recommanded Tropic Marin as well. I use Reef Crystal just because I have 2 new buckets left over when I'm raising adult brine shrimps to feed my fresh water fish and don't want to just throw them away. I think I'll scrap all those dosing ideas and see how it...

Thanks for your input! Not arguing with you, and I can see most people opt for built in overflow.... So, dirt or what-so-ever building up behind that black glass won't post a problem? I thought it could be a time-bomb.... Isn't that once corals are in and used up the calcium, by utilizing a...
