    new shop in town

    I like the idea. I would definitely support a good shop in the area. In Florida, we had 3 good shops within 5 miles. So I would think the area could support a shop. The only issue I see here is that people seem to buy more items from other reefers here than in Florida.

    odyssey ballast

    0dyssey ballast I replaced mine with a Lumatek ballast. I used a computer power cord for the power from the ballast to the light. It is night and day the increase in light.

    Cheap MH light

    I have the 24" w/250 MH and actinics. The MH are 15K. The light seemed yellowish. I replaced the ballast with a Lumatek ballast. A world of difference. Very happy with the combination.

    55 gallon lighting

    Lighting I also started off with a 55 gal reef tank. I used a 260 watt compact flourescent from e-bay for $100. I was able to keep soft corals, LPS and montipora digitata and cap SPS corals. You may want to get T-5 lights so you have more options.
