My new generator arrived this morning

definitely not a "simple" install hooking up to the house grid. Requires permitting and an automatic transfer switch so you don't backfeed. Backfeeding = Death to linemen and is taken VERY seriously.

    Sufficient for a 55g?

depends on what you want to keep. You probably won't be keepeing any SPS with only 150w on a 55g. You'll also pick up a lot of shadow from the center brace of the tank with a single lamp fixture. BUT! The price is good for what you're getting.

    frag paks and international shipping

Probably wouldn't be a good idea to ship anything live from the US to Canada or vice versa. Things get held up in customs for long periods of time.

    The downsize!

That Naso is the coolest fish. Probably my favorite. I can be twenty feet away from the tank and he'll see me coming and start doing the feed me dance. Thanks MGD. I decided not to use any actinics this time since I'm running 2x400w reeflux 20k's, and it's definitely a different look. I...

    The downsize!

So as usual I've been terrible about keeping this updated, but here are some pics that I took last night now that I've got the tank set-up completely. I lost a lot of colonies trying to get the system stabilized, and you can still see some damage to the colonies that made it but everything is...

How to protect laminate wood floors

Depends alot upon your stand. Ift it's got really small feet where weight is not distributed, then possibly, but with most stands no...the weight should be distributed pretty well.

Is a G3 Skimmer right for me?

It depends on your bio load and if you plan to go bigger later. It's rated at 175 gallons with a heavy bioload, and all the way up to 350 with a light bio load. Really Trido you like the Sedra over the Sicce? I've always preferred them the other way around. I've got a Sedra on my Euroreef...

Is a G3 Skimmer right for me?

Absolutely! And I think next to lighting it's probably one of the biggest initial mistakes reefers make in not investing enough early so they don't have to upgrade later. I know I did :)

Is a G3 Skimmer right for me?

Probably wouldn't be my first choice. SWC Extreme 200 would be a better fit and you can't beat $289 for a REALLY nice skimmer.

    SPS Tank Equipment Ideas

I read the article and one thing that struck me was the number of assumptions he uses. While the assumptions may or may not be accurate, I think it prudent that in a "scientific" study, that any variable that can be measured or quantified should be. The other thing that struck me was the...

How to protect laminate wood floors

Believe it or not, most laminates will actually stand up fairly well to minor spills and day to day water drips around a tank. Much better than my hardwood is holding up :( As long as it is cleaned up right away and isn't allowed to sit you probably won't have any problems.

    diy t5 question

The same way, if it doesn't blow it right away, it will dramatically shorten the life of the bulb and or ballast. The only T5's that are made to be over driven are the UVL V-HO or variable high output bulbs that can be run at a standard 39w output in a 36" bulb or overdriven to 60w. The...

Right light for my tank 150g 60x26x26 centered overflow box

can be done much cheaper with stuff you already have. You can use the 660 ballasts to run t5 bulbs. Basically all you need is reflectors (Cheap) and tombstones (UBER CHEAP) and bulbs which will be the only expensive part.

Right light for my tank 150g 60x26x26 centered overflow box

It all depends on what you want to keep. I would personally look at swapping over to a stricly t5 set-up if you're concerned about heat. Much more efficient than VHO and you can always add to the system if you need more light later on since realistically two bulbs can fit into the space of 1 VHO.

    diy t5 question

Very simple, your tombstones should already be bridged with the factory wiring, so that shouldn't be an issue. However, if for some reason they are not you'll need to bridge them on both sides of the bulb which simply means creating a U shaped piece of wire that is inserted into both contacts...

after 2 years I get to start again

That pump you have in there is a catalina. IMO I would try and replace it when you can simply because catalina pumps have a tendancy to come apart and leak oil all over your tank!

    diy t5 question

The most important thing is to look at you ballast wattage rating. How many channels does your ballast have? Whats the max wattage it can support? Divide the number of channels into the max wattage to find out what each channel supports. One 39w channel will support two 18w bulbs, but not...
