    Spokane reefers

I think it may be time to frag our candy cane. It is growing like gangbusters and now has some polyps that are pointing straight down toward the sand. It is slightly bigger than a softball. Wondering if someone has anything LPS to trade a frag for...while coming over and showing me how it's...

    Reef Ready Overflows?

I picked up a 150g AGA with dual Mega overflows with all the plumbing and bulkheads already done...plus stand for $500 and thought that was a pretty good deal. We have the standpipes and a mag 18 for a return...as for noise...the loudest thing is the fans in the Current USA light fixture. Good...

    Chemetry Pros...a few Q's??

I'm wondering if a couple of you guys who are smarter than me (which is most everyone here) could tell me a little about a few chemicals...if they leach from plastic forever...and if they're toxic for the reef or not. They are: Sodium Hydroxide and Acrylamide Copolymer. I've read that these...

    Water Storage tanks

A plumber friend of mine has offered me some large (55-60g) plastic tanks that they have sitting around the shop...the catch is they used to have anti-freeze in them:eek: Is there any way I can make these useable for RO/DI and saltwater storage?? Will bleaching them and leaving them out in...

    Moon lighting questions

Well I second Sid's opinion...but my fish and corals say they know what time it is by which lights are on. Halides=playtime; blues=outta bed sleepy heads and also cooldown before bed...and moons=lights out...bedtime. They're just like toddlers...keep them on a schedule!!:D

    General coral opinions

Update It's the wierdest thing...today after I get home from work...the candycane is looking much better. Actually the whole thing is on the mend. So far they have went from grey and shriveled like in the pix to whiter and a little plumper. Thanks for all the good advice...but if everything...

    Dead heads on candycane

I have a candy cane with what appears to be some "dead heads" They are hard, shriveled, and grey...(no longer the nice bright pink) and they no longer release tentacles @ night. question is should they be cut off or left alone. Will they cause the rest of them to do the same? Pix of it can...

    General coral opinions

no corals around it...never seen an invert on it. How about this though...we currently have a small bout going on with red slime...is it possible that a strand maybe got stuck in it's tentacles and ingested?? Just throwing anything and everything at the wall at this point and seeing if any of...

    General coral opinions

everything we've read says it should go on the bottom of the tank...on the sand...it's not in a high flow area...but I could move it to a dead zone. I was wondering how they grow and what is "normal" if anything??

    General coral opinions

OK folks...I need some general opinions about a candy cane coral we've had for about 5 weeks now. It looks to me like some of the heads are shriveling up and dying. They are slightly hard to the touch and no longer open up at night to feed. I don't know how they "grow" / split and if this is...

    Tank builders...HELP...acrylic vs plexiglass

thanks Brian - did you look @ the diagram? Does it look OK? This is my first attempt so I took basic plans I'd seen and added what i knew I wanted. If this stuff is old (ie - not having protective sheets still on) is there a way for me to tell the type?? Thanks again

    baffle sizing in the sump

OK - attached is a thumbnail of my plan that I threw together with powerpoint. I BARELY know how to use it...so don't make too much fun of it's simplicity. I used the 4 baffle plan scotter mentioned and hope it's right. If I did the calculations right it will hold 53g at 12inches. Since I...
