    baffle sizing in the sump

I know the center baffle needs to be one inch higher than the other two...but since I want the water level to be 12 inches does that mean the baffle height when cutting them should be 12 inches as well? Make any sense?? HELP Thanks

    Current USA Orbit Lighting?????

mine is over a standard 150AGA. It was recommended by a LFS owner who is also a RF staffer. We told him we wanted to keep a majority of LPS & softies...then maybe a few SPS very close to water level as we became more experienced. Yes the fixture doesn't "totally" cover the tank since it's...

coral reff newb/am i getting ripped off

Being new to the hobby...about 3 months reefing now...here is my $0.02 worth. We bought a 150AGA with dual megaflows and standpipes installed with a stand which was home made but good quality for $500.00 which we considered a pretty good deal. Our skimmer is an AquaC Urchin Pro with a mag3...

    Current USA Orbit Lighting?????

I have the "outer orbit" 48" fixture by Current. It has 2 130W actinics and 2 150W 10K halides. We've had it for only 3 months...but love it so far. They come with built in fans, ceiling mount hardware, and 2 timers. You can create true 24hr "set it and forget it" lighting if that's what you...

    Attaching coral to the glass

I have a pumping Xenia frag that after about 3-4 wks in my tank has begun to really take off. We think it would be cool to attach it to a few different places on the back of the tank and let it spread there to create a background. I have seen it on a few different tank clinging to the...

    Best Cleaner for (Outside) Glass?

I use either tap water or foaming glass cleaner depending on how much of the tank needs cleaning and if we'll be taking pictures or not...and almost always a cotton towel.

    Algae ID HELP!!!

Here are a few pics of what we found after coming back from a weekend out of town. Our friend was housesitting for us...taking care of the tanks and other animals and had good instructions which she followed to the letter...and we checked the water params before we left. A little bit of it was...

    Xenia question

We've had a pulsing Xenia frag (2 stalks) for about 48hrs now and each night when the lights go off it closes its "hands" and remains that way until the next morning. It also hasn't started to "pump" yet. It is the pink variety. Since this is our first coral...what's normal...what else can we...

    Pictures of our 1st Coral...YEA!!!

We were told it is pulsing xenia...but often called pumping or waving. I'm a little worried about the copperband butterfly...he's been investigating the rock it's on but so far no damage...we're watching him like a hawk though.:doubt:

    Backup power

Well I discussed this topic with my lfs guy today who moderates here as well as a few other sites and he told me like was already mentioned...oxygenating the water is the top priority. Larger fish (over 8") can die in as little as 2 hrs without some O2 being added via a small powerhead. Also...

    Backup power

Well here are my thoughts as right now I'm in the same boat as Gabby: The TV Station I work @ is switching to a huge (room size) UPS/generator unit and will be "surplusing" a bunch of APC power supplies we currently use for computers. I "think" I only need 3 or 4. I plan on putting 1 on each...

    Backup power

I was just wondering how many people have a backup plan in case they lose power to their tanks...what each person has...and how long is too long for a reef to be powerless? We have a BIG storm hitting the PNW later this week and some of us will likely end up losing juice for a little...

    Short Note

Glad she's feelin' better...and no worries mate (sorry, watching animal planet) about having to hold and rock her. Our daughter was pretty much rocked to sleep every night in our glider until she was 2 yrs old. Just look at it as time well spent bonding that you can never get back.

    150g updated pics

Luckily all the snails and crabs look to be too big for him so far. Not that he's not trying while we aren't looking. He has managed to pick off all but the smallest of our hitch-hiked feather dusters though.
