70W halide Good? Bad? or Ugly?

I have one on my aquapod and use the Ushio 10k bulb with a 32w actinic. It is a nice crisp white with just the hint of blue.

New pictures. Playing with my macro lens

I am using an EOS 5d with the 100mm f2.8 macro lens. I still have problems with shooting through the glass. Anytime I try to shoot at any angle other than straight on, the pics are blurry. I am going to build an acrylic box this weekend so I can shoot top down photos.

best way to deal with hair algae?

Ditto on this. I would also remove the rock from the tank and scrub it in a bucket and rinse in another bucket. I dealt with this a few years back. You just have to stay on top of it and finally it will go away.

    New 120 gallon setup

A quick update. The montipora nudibranch outbreak and subsequent dipping gave me a good excuse to reaquascape. I like the look alot better now. There is a bit more depth to the rockwork now. The tank was still a bit cloudy when I took this pic, but you can see the depth a little. I am...

    Monti nudi treatment progress

Here are some close ups of a few of the corals that went through the dip. You can see that it bleached them out a bit, but they have good PE and seem to be recovering. From what i have read, this is normal and they should regain coloration over a couple weeks.

    Monti nudi treatment progress

I think it is still too early to tell. Some of them were starting to show polyp extension before the lights went out and some still looked pretty browned out which is normal for the treatment. I guess the PP is absorbed into the coral and it takes a day or two for the coloration to return to...

    Monti nudi treatment progress

I spent the afternoon doing the treatment today and just doing some general cleaning of the tank. I also re-aquascaped and am much happier with the rockwork now. I am hoping this dip will do the trick. So far the majority of the corals are doing ok. There are a couple that I am not sure...

    Monti nudi treatment progress

I did not get to the treatment last night. I had a homeowners meeting to attend. I am hoping to get to it tonight.

    Monti nudi treatment progress

I am going to do the dip in my 20g with about 15g of water to allow room for rock and the corals. I figure: 15 gallons = 56.775 liters (3.785 l/g) 50mg * 56.775l = 2.839g I am just going to weigh this on a kitchen scale.

    Monti nudi treatment progress

Over the last few weeks I had noticed some white spots on a couple of my montiporas but figured it was just areas where some detritus became trapped. This past Sunday I was preparing to do some fragging before the lights came on and noticed a new spot that was on a vertical part of my large red...

    Bulb Replacing Time Help!

I have the hamilton 14k's and have been happy with them so far. I am using them with 2 48" vho actinics and it produces a nice blueish-white color.
