    External skimmer conversion

Here's a pic of what it looks like. I'm thinking I need to remove the foam filter covered riser tube (right side of pic) and replace that with a ball valve and bulkhead into sump. Then I need to plumb another bulkhead from the sump to the pump's intake (assuming that it's an external pump)...

    Converting in-sump skimmer to external

Okay, so I'm not sure what all the parts do. The foam riser (right hand side) is for what? Is that where the water exits and the foam topper-thing is used to eliminate extra bubbles? And the intake is just the pump's intake, correct? The pump forces the water and bubbles into the skimmer...

    External skimmer conversion

Okay, thanks for all the great feedback! How about we start with how a external skimmer works. Maybe from then I can see what I need to mod. Please, someone offer some advice! HELP!

    Converting in-sump skimmer to external

I have a Euroreef CS8-3 that I want to convert to an external skimmer. Is this even possible?

    Frag Tank

Okay, it's been a while, but I'm almost done with my setup. IAP did a great job on a 75 x 24 x 12 tank. I have 3 250w MH and a Dart pump on a closed loop (2100gph) and a 75g sump with about 130lbs of live rock. Hoping to get a euroreef cs8-3 skimmer (pending sale) this weekend. We did some...

    return pump help

How much heat are we talking about folks? On a 1000gph pump, can't be that much can it? I would think that with such a big sump there would be plenty of natural cooling from evaporation, or at least nothing a fan couldn't handle. Just my opinion - take it with a grain of salt. Is that the...

    Calcium Reactor Feedback/Opinions

Korallin reactor was suprisingly easy to setup - after I stopped trying to understand their instruction manual! ReefCentral has great threads on how to hook it up in real person terms.

Advice please for equipment for a 450 gal reef setup

Curious ... how much is the tank costing you?

    Seaswirls?

Thanks everyone. Wavysea looks interesting (but is more expensive). I just might have to try one!

    External skimmer conversion

I want to convert a euroreef cs8-3 to use externally on my sump. I am not totally sure how this skimmer works, so if anybody has ideas or is an owner of such skimmer, I would love to hear from you. Drawings would be great! I consider myself a DIYer and don't mind making plumbing...

    Seaswirls?

Okay, I've seen plenty of people with these on their tanks. I just want your opinion about them. Do they require a lot of maintenance? Have you had problems with them? What size do you have? Is it hard to attach to an acrylic tank with euro-style bracing? Thanks for your input!

    salt water

tagging along ... I've heard of people using it (my second cousin), but I'm surprised more people don't here on the forums. Sounds like a cheap alternative to wasteful RO/DI units and bottled distilled water.

    Neptune Systems AquaController 3 help

I'm contemplating buying another one. Does anyone have a suggestion for something that works better? or should I just go with this kind again?

    Berlin skimmer any good?

well ... I got it for cheap so I cleaned it and plugged it in and it seems to be working all right. I guess it already had a "mod" with Rio pump. I am getting decent bubbles and wet skimmate. What specifically does everyone hate about it? How does it not work for you guys?

    Berlin skimmer any good?

I was looking at picking up a Red Sea Berlin Turbo Classic protein skimmer. It seems relatively inexpensive. Has anybody had an experience with these? How do they compare to a Euroreef or AquaC?

    Post your meeting ideas

I'd join to see some fragging demos and any DIY stuff (calc reactors, skimmers). How about getting Anthony Calfo?

Ozone, the good, the bad, and the ugly!!!

Here's what the AquaC EV Series Skimmer says about ozoning through their skimmer (straight from their product description at MarineDepot): "the addition of a John Guest fitting is a great feature that can only be found in AquaC ozone-equipped skimmers. A calcium reactor may also be connected...
