    Alkalinity too high 14.4 dKH

I don't run a calc reactor...so that isn't part of the equation. I have tried the open window and testing the same water inside and outside of the house...no change. I have two Tunze powerheads (6055/6045) and one agitates the surface and the upper layer of water in the tank, so hopefully have...

    Alkalinity too high 14.4 dKH

I just tested my reef tank and got the following results: PH 7.9 Alk 14.4 Salt 1.025 ORP 453 Phos 0 Calcium 440 Amonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 40 My big concern is the alkalinity. My PH has been low (and I did the test the water inside/outside to see if it is room CO2 and it wasn't) so I have been...

Pre-order the new illustrated Book of Coral Propagation!

HI Anthony: Your book is now on sale at Marine Depot and has some reviews to it. Do you know when you are going to make the shipments to the pre-orders? Were there just a limited receipt that MD got? THank you. Very excited to get your book, has gotten great reviews as would be expected.

    Do all Wrasses do this...

I have a pair of Lubbock's fairy wrasses and they create a "caccoon" at night." It appears as a messy web if they don't have a hide holeto go into. The caccoon is apparent if they use a hide area that has an open end like under a flat rock. The majority of wrasse bury themselves at night or...

    I have aptasia! eek!

I used Joe's juice in the beginning, but got lucky with a couple of peppermint shrimp. I agree that they are hit and miss. I have had a couple that didn't go near it. I would be concerned that the rock you "parboiled" might get some adverse effects...especially with zoa's and a sponge on it.

    quarantine tanks? pros and cons?

You quarantine for several reasons: 1) to control the introduction of disease into your tank, 2) to observe the new inhabitant (what seemed to be a docile fish in the LFS could now turn out to be a tiger shark in docile clothing) might spark a return to the LFS, 3) if you observe disease while...

    What Corals can I mix

I currently have a 70 gallon AGA with 24 gallon sump and run Charcoal in a sep filter in the sump. I have three mushrooms (ricordea) and a couple of clove and stary polyps. Also have xenia (2 kinds). I would like to have a stag or other branching sps but have heard that it isn't wise to mix...

    Water Alkalinity

I didn't think that a pair of clowns, pacific blue, sailfin and a bi-color would be overstocked for a 70 gallon? I think that part of the issue is the skimmer is not yet skimming correctly which I think has shown itself in the form of an increase in phosphates. Also, perhaps I could be...

    Water Alkalinity

I have opened the windows in the tank room, opened the front door and used a fan to circulate outside air into the house....no effect on the PH. So puzzled on how a determination can be made the it is due to "higher than normal indoor CO2 in the house???" I really appreciate the help becuase...

    Thanks. Just PM'd him.

    Octopus RPS-1000

Does anyone have an Octopus RPS-1000? I am looking to find out what is the best water pump to use with these skimmers I have tried a couple and they are either undersized or way oversized. Looking for a recommendation from someone who is currently using this recirculating skimmer. THANK YOU...

    aqua controller 3

I just got the ACIII and it came with the temperature probe. (Note: this temp probe is different than the one on the AC, Jr which I had earlier) The PH/ORP probes are separate. Class Clown: that is the best price I have seen on the DC8, glad you passed it along

    Water Alkalinity

Need some help. I just did a water test and my results are: Salt 1.025 Alk 12.8 DKH Phos .1 Calcium 460 PH 8.1 (but my probe reads 7.98 and was just calibrated) Amonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 20 I used to run the phos reactor but stopped about 2 weeks ago. Due for a 20% water change this weekend...

    Koralia Front Openings

I have three Koralias and small clowns. Never had a problem. My bi-color blenny used to go into my Seio 620 all the time but never into the Koralia - smart fish.

    Puffer

I haven't found one, but I thought it is worth asking....is there such a thing as a reef compatable puffer? I only keep softies and was wondering if there is any kind of puffer you can keep that won't totally destroy the reef? I see a lot of pics of peoples tanks with softies and there is a...

    Green Star Polyps

Mine did the same but only after I moved them. Any time you touch the polyps they seem to retreat into themselves for a couple of days and then come out. Not sure why, but it is a fairly consistent happening in my tank when I move them.

    Fuzzy Mushroom Down

My numbers a right on the mark, just had them tested. I have several ricordea, a torch coral (not near the fuzzy) sun coral, clove, star. Nothing that would "start chemical warfare" that I am aware of. If the fuzzy was near the torch I would say there is a possibility. I spoke with the local...

    Fuzzy Mushroom Down

This is a bit confusing....my large green fuzzy mushroom (about 5 inches across when fully open) just started to exhibit a decline in health. It started with a showing of "purple" looking entrails and then it began to spread. The following is a picture (sorry for the poor quality) of what it...

    problems with shroom

If you want him to thrive...adjust him slowly, but you shouldn't put him in the upper third IME. I would put him in the shade and let him thrive myself.

    problems with shroom

Let me preface by my experience base is only a few months, but from everything I have read and experienced, Corallimorphs prefer shady areas of a tank not direct - bright light. I have mine located in the lower portion of my tank and they do not get direct light from my CF or MH. My ricordea...
