    Overgrown hair algae

Try picking it off with your fingers the best you can and then blowing off the rocks with a powerhead or turkey baster. I've noticed that when it gets that long there will tend to be detritus that the algae has kind of grown over or gotten trapped. I think it is acting like fertilizer. Also...

    coral

I buy glue at the local hobby store, they usually have CA (cyanoacrylate) glue ie. superglue in all kinds of thicknesses. For soft coral I've used a rubberband around a rock or kinda smashing it between two rocks 'till it's attached.

I'm new to this and I really need help

I would say 20% each time. You would want to add new water that is at the same specific gravity as the water you are taking out. If you were to replace 20% of your tanks water with fresh RO water with no salt, you'd have alot bigger problems than algea. Most people I've seen like to keep their...

I'm new to this and I really need help

I would cut back your hallide lights so that they are only on for 8 hours out of the day. Do some good water changes 20% or more once or twice a week to get your nitrates down as close to zero as possible. Also, is that a sponge on the intake of the powerhead in the pic? I know that they can...

    Acro predator?

They look like amphipods to me. Awesome pics by the way! Maybe eating already dead or dying tissue? Are there Acro eating amphipods? I know I've seen similar ones in my refugium. I'm sure some of the experts will chime in soon enough. I'm riding along. Good luck with it.

    Small fish for refugium

I agree with menace78. I think that puting a fish in there would defeate the purpose of the ("refuge" from fish ium). Also, I think that's a really small space for any fish, espesially assuming that a good portion of it is full of mud, sand and algae.

    Pufferdady's New 120

Thanks, ya they are a couple of beggars. Sometimes when I clean the tank and have the pumps off they start shoveling sand out from around that torch that they live in like they are preping for breeding. But, they are way too small for that I think. You know teenagers lol.

    Pufferdady's New 120

I can't believe it's been almost 3 months since my last post here. The algae in my tank is doing much better, little foxface, tuxedo urchin, water changes, adding a refugium, and patients has been the key to it so far. Oh ya, and a #%stard lawnmower blennie helped a bit but I had to remove him...

    Green Hair Algae

If you don't want a yellow tang I definately wouldn't get one. There is no guarantee that it will eat your problem, and once you put him in it'll be really hard to get him out. I'm fighting every kind of algea there is right now in my tank. The best thing that I have done is big water changes...

    Green Hair Algae

I guess it doesn't matter what kind you have, just that if the bulbs are old (more than a year) that might be some of the problem.

    Green Hair Algae

I have a tuxedo urchin that does ok. I've had good luck with big turbos too. Also, what kind of lighting do you have and how old are your bulbs. I've read that old bulbs will produce a different spectrum of light that can cause algea.

    Feedback on this Sump?

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I know it was a bit expensive, I just like the way the refugium is set up. Seems like the cheaper ones have a " higher flow" ref. I want it to be a bit more regulated on how fast water flows though it. I'm in no hurry though so I'll keep an eye out for something...

    Project Frag 20L

I know the feeling, I have two really expensive hobbies! You don't even want to know all the airplanes/helis I've got lying around. Also, if you've got the Trex then I guess I'd leave the MX as a paperweight lol. Ok, ok I guess this is another thread for another forum. See you on RC Groups lol

Next you have to get that MX 400 flying:p I couldn't resist after seeing it in the pic of your desk. The tank and stand looks sweeeet!!

    Pufferdady's New 120

So, it's been another 2 weeks and the algea is getting a bit better with water changes and I added a tuxedo urchin. Although as you can see, now I've got cyano on the sand. The urchin is doing a good job at cleaning up the algea. The Seahare on the other hand is not really doing anything. I'll...

    Coraline

I like that kent scaper that Liz was talking about. Either way just be carefull around the silicone and don't jam the blade into it and I think you'll be fine.

    Feedback on this Sump?

I was wondering if anybody here has had any experience with the company that makes this sump? Or heard anything about these sumps. I'm looking for a sump with a built in fuge. So far, this is one of the only ones I've found with a design that I like but, I can only find the one pic and not alot...
