    Some SPS macro pics

Thanks guys. I used a Canon 5D but the lens is most important. It is a Canon 100mm f2.8 macro lens. It is pretty easy to take good macro pics, you just have to know a few basics. 1) Minimize camera shake: Use a tripod and if you want to get the very best, use mirror lockup. 2) Take the...

    Some SPS macro pics

Thanks for the comments. Cali reef, I'm close. I am out of town but when I get back I'll frag and mount them and make sure they are healthy. I had a frag of the flower petal monti that was encrusting nicely, then it died. Not sure what happened. -Greg

    Some SPS macro pics

After a little about a year with my current tank, my SPS are looking pretty good. I lost a couple this summer with STN from the bottom up, caused by either an Alk swing or higher temps or a combination. I have an efflo that won't color up but I just upgraded my lighting so hoping to get some...

    Some of my better shots

I got a new shot of my most photogenic coral, the Garf Purple Bonsai. In my previous shots, I was unable to get the entire coral in focus so I upped the film speed to 800 so I could close down the lens (this one was f10). I took a few shots and I got the one below with one of my Bartlett's...

    Some of my better shots

My Chips just keeps getting hairy to the point that the base is blocked from the light. It is in lots of random flow so that may have something to do with it. The earlier pic was a month or so old. Here is a current one: It looks kind of cool but you can't really see the nice blue of the...

    Some of my better shots

Thanks Brandy, You may remember that I got the Garf Bonsai and the ORA Chips from you a few months ago along with several others that are all doing well (Idaho Grape, a nice neon green Slimer and a couple others). For some reason, I can't get the Paletta Blue to color up. It just stays a very...

    Some of my better shots

Thanks Thang. I picked up a few corals from you a few months ago and they are doing great (bi-color pollicipora, ORA green birdsnest, red digitata and a couple other montis.) I saw you were selling some more frags but I was too slow to respond. When you have another frag of the Pearlberry or...

    Some of my better shots

Thanks, I use a Canon Rebel with a Canon 100mm macro lens. Makes us amatuers look pretty good. You are welcome to come by, just give me a heads up. I'm only a couple miles away. I generally work out of the home so have a pretty fexible schedule. I have several large SPS frags that I would be...

    Coraline algae

I find that the rock under the more intense lighting seems to lose its coraline yet it grows quickly in areas where the light is less direct. This in a 100 gal tub that I am using to cure rock while waiting for my display tank to be delivered. Some of the rock is probably 10 inches directly...

    Starting up reef tank

I think your test kits are probably fine until you want to add corals. Then you want phospate and calcium test kits. You should probably get phospate test kit now. As your tank ages, phospates can slowly rise and algae usually becomes an issue for everyone at some point. Same with supplements...

    Source for custom glass aquarium?

Where do people buy their glass aquariums? I'm not having any luck finding anyone locally to build a glass aquarium. Can someone recommend anyone, anywhere? I have discovered A.G.E is incredibly inexpensive and they appear to only work with dealers (which I may do but was hoping to buy...

    Source for custom glass aquarium?

I am looking for a vendor to build a glass (partially starphire) aquarium in the 175 gallon range (60x24x28). It will have an external overflow. Can anyone recommend a quality custom manufacturer that is somewhat close to Seattle in order to minimize shipping costs?

    above tank sump success!

Clever idea. I guess that means your display is actually your sump in terms of flow. I assume the reason it doesn't overflow in a power outage is that you have chambers or an overflow in your above-tank sump that will only drain a modest amount into your display once the pumps stop (just like a...

    Was that your tank?

I was in Blue Sierra (Issaquah, WA) yesterday and they had a massive Starfire tank waiting to be delivered to someone in the area to be setup as a reef tank. I believe it was over 300 gallons and at least 8 feet long. Does that belong to someone on Reef Frontiers? I am jealous.

    My new photogenic friend

Thanks for the compliments. I used a Digital Rebel with a 70MM macro lens under mixed lighting (Aquablue & Actinic T5s and 14K MH). The lens is new and I am still learning how to use it. I love digital cameras. Just take hundreds of pics and eventually one turns out really nice. :D -Greg

    My new photogenic friend

I've had my new tank up and running for a couple of months now and recently bought two Sunburst Anthias. They are doing great, eating like little piglets. One is a bit shy but the other likes to have her picture taken. It is one of my better fish pics so I wanted to share: -Greg
