    Agronite LR

I live in Whatcom Country and you can get them at basically any farm supply store, people feed them to chickens for calcium for the egg shells. Specifically I got them from a Feed store in Everson. I would think any farm supply store / animal feed store would have them. Or you can also find huge...

    March AC-5C-MD Pump

http://www.marchpump.com/documents/series_5.asp#AC-5C-MD%20115V%2050/60Hz%20&%20230V%2050/60Hz%20Models I am relying solely on this March 1/8th HP pump for my system’s water flow. It is working great, but I am wondering if I need to worry about longevity and whether or not I should have a...

    Agronite LR

Do you think it would speed up the curing if you were to put acid in the water to neutralize the alkalinity? Also, for the sculptured pieces I have experimented using fiber in the concrete to help hold everything together and it really helps (I used an old nylon shirt ripped up). Anyone have...

    Agronite LR

I have made my own rock, but it is still curing. I used crushed oyster shell as my aggregate just becasue it was readily avaialbe and cheap ($.30/lb at feed stores). I mixed 3 parts crushed oyster sells to 1 part portland cement. I have not tested the pH yet of the water to see if it is ready. I...

How difficult is it to breed clams?

I now have my light over this tank, 250 watt metal halide, 14000K. I have the light about 12" from the water. I have 1 clam on order but for now I have corals in the tank. I want to get a bunch of live rock to place around the edges of this tank, not to mention many, many clams!!

what is this and how would I frag it?

thanks for the input, I would have not thought to use a dremel on a coral, but I will try it out. I hope to keep the cup portion intact and growing, it is my favourite part. The polyps are out now. I have him in my new shallow clam tank under 250 watts of MH. Travis

Chocolate Chip Sea Star in my Refugium?

I am thinking about getting a Choco chip starfish for my refugium. I know they are not reef safe, but anyone see an issue with one in my refugium? I do have 2 sea cucumbers in my refugium, but otherwise no critters. thanks,

What is my Rose bubble Tip Anemone up to?

thanks! Well, she (RBTA) still has not settled and now I believe she is getting harrassed by my clown. At first my clown had nothing to do with her. But now he is litteraly diving in and getting aggressive. I have even seen the clown sucking on her tenticles. The RBTA responds by contracting and...

How difficult is it to breed clams?

Yeah I know, I am in no rush and am fine with getting yonger clams and raising them until mature. I have heard that they start to spawn as little as 3". I want to make sure that my conditions are optimal and I know almost all there is to know on how to raise clams before attempting anything as...

How difficult is it to breed clams?

thanks for your input. Yes, all my tanks are connected but I have made all tanks capable of running by themselves with isolation valves so the plan would be to isoalte this tank near spawning time. The trick is to predict spawning times, and I hope to get a few clams to start and monitor their...

How difficult is it to breed clams?

I have 3 fish in my frag tank wich is all internconnected and the flow is high enough that a lot of it will make it into this clam tank. I may put 1 fish that will help with potential parasites. What would you recommend? A 6 line wrasse? Plus my fuge is loaded with bugs, and I hope that as the...

Centerpiece tank - check out my design!

Wow, that tank looks great. I am also thinking about getting a corner tank, but probably glass with bow front. I am currently working on the refigium and frag tank in the basement below the location of this future tank to which it will be plumbed up to. If you don't mind me asking, how much did...

DIY Lighting Timers to mimic nature

Then what induces clams and corals to spawn in nature if it is not stress?

DIY Lighting Timers to mimic nature

Rather than varying the intensity of the moon lights, I am planning on changing the number of LEDs on at a time based on how full the moon is. Do you not agree that the cycles of the moon can induce your corals and clams to spawn? As I said, this is one of my longer term goals and I have seen...

DIY Lighting Timers to mimic nature

I am sure you will agree that you can't beat nature, and the influence the cycle of the moon and daylight length has on every living creature is huge! I want to simulate these conditions to provide the optimum conditions the closest possible to nature and to use the natural cycles of the moon to...
