    Probiotics, What?

Geeze rugie, It would be nice if we could get on with a discussion here, and I for one, am behind you on this one, at least as far as bringing the information into the light, but gosh PEOPLE, can't we relax here a little bit, and discuss the material at hand without "chucking spears" all over...

    Probiotics, What?

Quite true, and I agree, but how about if the mechanical and bioligical methods compilment "each other", and become a whole system VS one being dominant over the other? > Wave98 :) :p

    Probiotics, What?

No lack of interest here rugie, I for one would rather you stayed with it, but I understand your frustration. If you are going to remain absent, however, maybe you could leave a bunch of the reading on the subject that you have on your hard drive, for those of us who remained interested. I hope...

    Probiotics, What?

Well, that is absolutely interesting!! I wasn't aware, that "we" were trying to rid our aquariums of bacteria, other than to remove a portion of these bacteria, and the P and Nitrate that they nave "taken-up", as a balancing mechanism for "nutrient control". The article is quite informative, but...

    Probiotics, What?

Self explanatory. Thanks, and Happy Reef Keeping. > Wave98 :)

    Probiotics, What?

Rugie, could you expound on the bed depths that you offered. Nearly all sandbed proponents "specify" or reccomend bed depths of less than 1 1/2", or, 4" minimum up to infinity, as the correct depth, which leaves the 1 1/2" - 4" territory as "dangerous". I can't say that I've learned enough yet...

    Sand Stirring substrates

Good to hear from you again Dan. Say, did you ever do anything with your reverse "low flow" UGF. I think that idea is very interesting, and I would love to hear more about it when you get it up and running. Keep us posted. Now that I think of it, did you have a thread for that, or did it just...

Caught my first fish for my tank today!!!

You know krish, if you could just get those snails out of my wife's bra, we could still just try the Lear jet. I just don't want to bring my own net, and I'm sure you have the semi-permeable bags, and oxygen tanks for pressurizing right? > barryhc :p

Caught my first fish for my tank today!!!

You might just want to "avoid the disaster" and send it to me. We could just trade the shipping charges for that fish I'm supposed to win! :p And BTW, just when is this fish going to be awarded, I don't be away on vacation at the "triumphant moment"! > Wave98 :)

Caught my first fish for my tank today!!!

The "backwall", what is it, where did it come from? Please don't tease me for more than a week, that is my tolerance "level". After that, I start "tilting"! Snail, what snail? "We" don't don't need "no stinking snails", ( just me! ) :)

    Aah, What? :p

Caught my first fish for my tank today!!!

I love your aquascaping on the back of the display, can you elaborate? Please don't tell me it's from home depot, I'll have to hide for week. :p It's probably cheaper for you to pick up in your backyard! ( beach ? ) > Wave98 :)

    Deep Sand Bed Rhetoric

Debacle, I see your flow set-up in those diagrams, but not the piping "in the sand", as you say. Are you going to use a plenum at the bottom for drainage, and another one or something else, higher up for the "feeding"? > Wave98 :)

I see we're getting back to that good conversation now. :p This is much better. > Wave98 :)

    Let's Talk About ~Algae Control~

Well, two posts popped up while I was typing. All good information from reedman, but I was thinking especially about the rock, during that last post. It seems that pondguys parameters are good "before" the water change, so probably not food inputs ( as far as the fish dying ), but how...

    Let's Talk About ~Algae Control~

Pondguy, when you first posted with this problem, you were harvesting algae through a tube, which should be just fine, but you were also running this water through a "sock" in order to save the water. Back then, you had some fish dying, right after each "harvest". Depending on what kind of rock...

    Let's Talk About ~Algae Control~

Read post #25 on page 1 > Wave98 :) And #26 and #28, if you want to see some "manners" :p

    Let's Talk About ~Algae Control~

You don't pay any attention at all Krish, I got extra critters because of a shipping mistake, before there was ever the first diatom bloom, and I have not ever had any algae problem to correct! Not much else to correct either, the system has been fine since dat one!

    Let's Talk About ~Algae Control~

You know full well Mike, that I hate "magic bullets" more than anyone else, we've been through this too many times. And It's Krish that is really getting his "own goat" here. You might want to look up some "Boomer quotes", since you don't have anything meaningful to say yourself. > Go for it...

    Let's Talk About ~Algae Control~

Boy you guys are really slow! I have stated over and over again, that crabs and snails, while they do remove that 10-15% of nutrient load, are far more valuable for keeping the other 85% of that load, up in the water column, for skimming, and keeping cyano and hair algae, off of the surface of...
