    Live Rock

Hi, so I replaced about 60% of my old live rock that had many LPS's on it like green star pol, pulsing xenia, and shrooms. I replaced it with Eco Rox from BRS, and now don't know what to do with the old rock that is now in a garbage can with a heater/pump. The rock has been in there for about a...

    Bulkhead Installer/Remover

Really to tight will cause a seep too? ok, this might be my problem that has worried me for quite some time. I'll remember that thanks. If you leave a bulkhead to tight will it cause a problem down the road? Sorry didn't mean to hijack the thread. I'm out, good luck with the setup!

RO/DI why am I testing Phosphates?

I tested the TDS out of the tap and got a reading of 50. I've put 2,500 gallons through the system in the last 6 months on my 6 stage RO/DI, and still get a reading of 0 TDS. That reading is from the RO/DI units TDS meter, and a TDS pen. I dont think your exhausting the DI stages. What kind of...

    Can I borrow/buy a half-cuppa salt?

I have Britwells salt, mixed up and ready to go, you can have 5 Gallons of it, or you can have a few cups of salt and make your own. I'm in kent, and will be free monday after 3:30.

    My old 100 Gallon tank

Hi well I've been into the hobby now for a little over a year, and have just put my old tank up for sale. I moved up to a 180 gallon AGA tank, and hope to turn it into a SPS tank. Here is a youtube video of the 100 gallon that I never posted. My girlfriend nautrally named the tank "SharkBait...

low water chemistry and floating particulates

No, just a 7" filter sock, skimmer (RO3000), two phosoban reactors (1 carbon, the other bio pellets), and two ehime 1262's. The sump is rather clean. I am second guessing my thoughts now. The last week I've added a MP40W ES, and I've noticed a lot of particulates in the water. I'll be adding the...

Who uses an EcoTech Marine Vortech pumps?

Good deal, thanks for the info. Mine sounds like a kids bike with one of thoes cards in the spokes to make an engine sound. It's not loud, and it's not the knocking sound, like when you start a karailia pump up.

Who uses an EcoTech Marine Vortech pumps?

cadaillactatoo, your's is silent? I've played around with mine quite a bit and it seems to make a fare amount of motoring noise (like a slight grinding). Echotec says that it takes about a week to break in, we'll see. I've followed the install directions to the tee, and the alingment as well. I...

Who uses an EcoTech Marine Vortech pumps?

I just picked one up from Barrier Reef Aquariums, and am waiting for the second one to come in soon. So far I love it! I'm running the MP40W ES in my 180. I can say that the noise is a bit much if I'm listening for it, but the reality is; with a skimmer, fans, pumps, and ambient noise, it's...

    Diatoms

Nice thread! I have a question though, what about the use of UV steriliaztion? Would this be another way of masking the real problem?

low water chemistry and floating particulates

hahaha nice. It's not a real problem, just trying to make sense of it. It'd be nice to judge the mineral content by how many particulates I see hahah.

low water chemistry and floating particulates

Slate, the paticulates were large enough to see, much like floating sand. I looked at the sand bed and didn't see much getting kicked up by the powerheads a little (a here and there). I do have three clams, and every once and while they'll throug up a sand cloud. It wasn't until I elevated the...

low water chemistry and floating particulates

2 months ago I set up my 180, and I was amazed at how clear the water was. I used about 60% new water, and the other 40% was from the old tank. Then a few weeks ago I began noticing large amounts of particulate matter in the water column. So I did a 30% water change to clear the tank of matter...

    Doubling up on filter socks?

    Nice ok, thanks.

    Doubling up on filter socks?

Has anyone ever tried using two filter socks, one inside another, to better polish the water? I change my 7" 200 micron sock every three days, but can't quite seem to remove particles from the DT's water. Just wondering if this will be a total waste of time, givin that both socks are 200 micron.

To many bubbles in the skimmer?

The skimmer seems to be working as designed now. The only problem that I face now is the splashing in the sump from the outlet. I also don't know where to place the water/bubble line cause the entire skimmer is all bubbles. I'll just keep watching it and see.

    FLOW RATE

I have a AGA180 6X2X2, and am using 4 K4's. In the sump two ehime 1262's with 5' as of head space as well. I am using the AGA drain pipes, and was over running them with the ehimes (900GPH) so I had to put two ball valves on to restrict the flow. Hope that helps. I plan to upgrade to 2 MP40's...
