    520g Peninsula Build

Update Okay, it's been a while since I've had a minute to post an update so here it is! We spent past week filling the 520, doing ~65g water changes on our current DT and pumping the used water into the new tank. We also received the lights and got them mounted, then rehung the cabinetry on the...

    Lemonpeel angel stopped eating

Furan-2 is also a good medication if Maracyn-2 is unavailable.

Thanks! I think I'm going to try to run the MRC, and depending on how it does I may pull the trigger on pumps for the other two skimmers. With the price of the Sicce pumps, I could almost just get a hammerhead for the big beckett, so I'm not sure if it's worth it.

    Clowns laid eggs

I used to raise clowns and really, raising the rotifers is the tricky part. They can be very unstable and there's a really delicate balance you need to maintain. Constantly harvest and feed to prevent overpopulation and starvation. You'll need to keep the fry in tiny tanks at first, and feed...

The bubble blasters look awesome, but they are on the more expensive side :(

    520g Peninsula Build

One of the skimmers that I'm looking at hooking up is a SWC 250 cone. I need to get pumps for it, and I'm having second thoughts about the ones that seemed like the obvious choice. I went with the PSK-2500s because that is what they came with from the factory, but it would seem that's a big...

    520g Peninsula Build

Thanks :) I'm kinda over it now, at this point I'm just doing what it takes to get the thing set up. My fish will appreciate it, and in reality this is for them.

    520g Peninsula Build

Sadly... yes. I worked something out with the guy selling it. Tbh, I wasn't all that happy once I got it home and had the chance to look things over more closely. Most of the equipment doesn't work and the tank has some bad scratches =/ The cabinetry is really nice and the tank holds water - so...

Marine Ich and the 11 month "worn out" theory

+1 Well said. I should have said symptomatic, not immune.

Tyvm for offering :) Also, I am planning on getting one of those water tanks you recommended, 250 gallons!! :D

    520g Peninsula Build

I ended up getting four of the Photon 32s from Reefbreeders. They have great layouts, customer service, and a better warranty than I could find anywhere else. Plus I can't argue with no sales tax :) I have some Praziquantel in the powder form, though I prefer not to use it. With my fish...

    520g Peninsula Build

I pulled the trigger on lights, skimmer pumps, salt, and a PhosBan reactor last night. Phew. I'm going to be penniless for a while. I will post pictures when everything shows up. I think I'm still in shock, lol. The canopy got some attention last weekend, we removed the cabinetry and cut...

Marine Ich and the 11 month "worn out" theory

I have a huge amount of respect for the information that Lee has presented here for us, and there may be some validity to the "worn out theory," but I don't think it has much of a practical application in our tanks. Many hobbyists adopt the method of thinking that if they can't see the ich - it...

    Purple tang. ICK?

I suppose I say that because I have seen velvet misdiagnosed as ich by friends in the past. They go to do the hypo treatment and lose their fish - proper diagnosis is essential here. Judging by Sedro's timeline I would agree it is likely ich. While I don't like hypo, I really can't say that I...

    Purple tang. ICK?

Let me know if you need some help. I'd be happy to lend you a tank to use as a quarantine if you want to meet somewhere. IMHO, the only way to fight ich is to eradicate it with medication and leave the display tank fishless for 8-10 weeks. Are you SURE that it is ich? Hypo only works on ich and...

    600g FOWLR Build

Awesome! Thank you both for the info. I was originally planning on building a rack for 3 or 4 55g plastic food grade drums (my husband gets them for free from work), but these bigger tanks would be a more efficient use of space I think. Anyway, don't want to steal your thread :) Your tank is...

That's why I said provided they have space, and the water quality is good/stable.

    520g Peninsula Build

I have read the same thing about the Bellus angels, as well as the whole Genicanthus genus, but frankly they don't appeal to me. I do like the flamebacks but they are pretty aggressive for a dwarf angel. Maybe it doesn't mean much coming from me, but I don't think you have too many fish :) If...

Hmm, looks like the same light with a different logo stamped on it. Glad to hear it's a good fixture and 4 is working for you, getting the extra 2 wasn't something I wanted to think about.
