    Scoly baby?

okay, so here is a picture on photobucket. I hope this works. The "baby is to the left of the middle part of skeleton and of course is rather hard to see but you can if you look close. <a href="http://s1016.photobucket.com/albums/af288/Jill_Levenson/Aquarium/?action=view&current=scoly006.jpg"...

    Scoly baby?

My scoly has a little knobble of something growing out of its side. It looks like a miniture scoly but is only the size of a pencil eraser. Unfortunately I havent been able to post pictures on this site. Do scoly's reproduce this way?

    Copepods

I found Marc Levenson's article called "Mandarin Diner" helpful. It's on reefkeeping.com but I think you can find it if you just google "Mandarin Diner".

    Copepods

I have to agree with Todd and Mike. The only reason I am able to keep mine in a nano is because my other big aquarium has a thriving pod factory and I am diligent about switching out rock and shaking chaeto from the big system regularly for fat juicy copepods. I wouldn't have a mandarin without...

    Copepods

I've had a mandarin for 6 months in my nano. I switch out a good sized rock from the fuge of my 300 g system with one from my nano every week. The copepods seem to recover their population in the big tank fuge. I also have a small fuge in my nano with copepods which I feed with phytopure. I...

    More on ocean acidification

Thank you and Skimmerwhisperer for posting I seriously feel bad for Spiffluk and wanted to speak up but was too chicken lest the pack turn on me. Plus I hadn't seen his other posts. I'm not an environmentalist; I too like bacon and we have 5 cars (but can only drive one at a time :) but I'm...

A fast way to scrape coraline on Acrylic

Thanks Adam - mine arrived yesterday. Can't believe how well they work and I'm going to order the scratch remover too.

    I'm a sucker for a cute fish

I'm so glad you have him. I got a skinny little naso two months ago and although I saw him eat (a little) he died within a week. Very very sad. I hope your little guy makes it.

    Auto Top Off System

I still have a float valve reservoir system on my 300 g system. I don't think temperature or pH is too much of a problem unless the valve fails. I had a terrible experience 6 months ago when my float valve malfunctioned and was hooked into my RO distiller. About 20 gallons ran into my pump...

where did all the collonista snails go?

so I had hundreds and liked them but now the big ones are gone; I say big but they of course are quite small. Now I have a whole bunch of little ones growing. The weird thing is that I can't see (or find) any of the shells from the last crop... I did see my Valentini Puffer knock some off the...

    Thanks everyone.

    defrosted cyclopeeze

I ordered some frozen cyclopeeze and oyster eggs and they came today but were defrosted. Still cold but not frozen. I threw them in the freezer right away and called Marine Depot. They told me that it would be fine as long as it was still cold but is that true? I know that with things like...

Iodine, Iodide and Iodate oh my...

Hey - another thing on this issue Boomer - a few months ago I lost my coral banded shrimp for what I assumed was for no good reason. He had shed several times over the 6 months that I had him and I thought that was a good thing. Now I am wondering if maybe he was a victim of iodine overload...

Iodine, Iodide and Iodate oh my...

Hi Boomer, Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide. I have only been involved in this “hobby” for about 18 months and am trying to learn as much as I can. I want to confirm my understanding of what my iodide and iodate readings mean. I need to know if I should adjust or...

Buying from websites, I'm new to saltwater

Thanks for the reply. As soon as I hit the "reply" button I regreted it because I hadn't contacted you after our visit. It was last summer and my husband and I had heard so many nice things about your store that we were really excited to make the trip. We were buying lots of things all over...

Buying from websites, I'm new to saltwater

Blue Sierra in Issaquah fills their bags - at least they did for me when I made the trip down from Bellingham. Everything did great when I got it home 2 hours later. I also really like Saltwater City - very friendly and helpful. Even though they didn't use oxygen I get my stuff home safely...

What do YOU feed your anemones?

I feed my RTBA a "sinking carnivore pellet" about 1x a week.

    Chiller

Ditto on year round. I have a 1/4 hp Teco on my nano (its been coming on a lot today) and a 1/2 hp on my 275 g. I've had them both over a year with no problems. Its so nice to not have to worry about the temp.
