    Tangs A love hate relationship

thanks mal. no offense. I was actually just wondering where to get one. Its on my wish list. Plus the thought of ich really scares me - my purple tang has been really healthy so far and I would be sick if he caught it.

where did you get the orange shoulder from?

    Particulates in the the tank

Good point - if its micro bubbles like I had then changing return pumps and/or making sure that your plumbing is kosher will definately help.

    "smells like teen spirit"

how about lynyrd skynards, "Ooh that smell"... I think we're each giving away our ages. I suspect you're a little younger than me Mouse :)

    Particulates in the the tank

What is a "filter floss"? I have also started to strain my frozen food much better after defrosting in RO water and that has helped alot. I also baste my rock regularly and do water changes right after while the particles are floating around.

    Show Us your fish

Beautiful pictures of beautiful fish. How and in what order did you add the fish and did (does) everyone get along?

    Elegance

ditto on what trido said and I put mine up on the rock and right under my LEDs. It gets lots of flow as it is almost right in front of my vortec m-10. I've had it for 6 months and its twice as big but I know things can turn bad really fast.

    Algae ID?

It looks kind of like a black sponge that I have. So Sid, my sponge is slow growing - should I take it out or just wait and see if it starts to grow towards my zoas?

    Anyone near B-ham feeling strong?

Okay you guys - now that I know you aren't a bunch of weirdos (kidding) please let me introduce myself! I promise that I'm not too weird either. I'm Jill and also live in Bellingham. We have a 275 DT with 75 g sump fuge. and an elos nano. I'd love to talk to you all and see tanks. I'll PM -

red hair algae in my refugium

Thanks for your advice iroll and bored. I did everything you said and the hair algae is gone. The coraline is also making a nice recovery.

red hair algae in my refugium

Okay, everything was going great. Then we changed return pumps and I noticed that a whole bunch of stuff blew out of the returns into the display. I didn't worry about it but a few weeks later I noticed that I started to have a bunch of grey debry gathering on my rocks. I used a baster and...

    Blue berry Gorgonian

I have a ton of those little brittlestars. They haven't harmed anything and are fun to watch in my nano. I have some in the big tank but the puffer likes to eat them.

    Need advice for Return pump

So I replaced the Coralife pump with the Reeflow Goby and I put a powerhead on the small wall across from the weir. The powerhead isn't that pretty but I was able to hide the power cord in the corner seam by drilling a hole in the top corner of the tank. The micro bubble problem went away...

Who will win? starburst or clove polyp

They seem to have reached an understanding and each have covered half of the rock they inhabit. Its really quite beautiful and one of these days I will post a picture.

    H2Ocean salt question

I just bought the new SeaChem Salt product and have used it once. I mix 30 gallons in 5 gallon buckets, use a small heater and nano powerhead in each bucket for at least 48 hours. I do a water change about once a week. The problem I have with this new product (I was using Tropic Marin) is...

    Need advice for Return pump

Wow! I really appreciate all the advice. I am in the process of doing alot more research. Also, just to clarify - another reason I want a little more flow from my return is that I am manually basting the rocks every day to keep the red mat algae at bay. My thought is that more flow from the...

    pest id please

I think they are pretty but know they spread pretty fast. I just had a problem with anthelia (which seems alot like Xenia) and finally got rid of them by slicing off as much as I could and then covering the rest with a thick coat of Aptasia X. It worked great.

    Need advice for Return pump

I think that the skimmer definately contributes to (if not causes) the microbubbles. My fuge and sump are all together 4" long and my skimmer is set right before another baffle and then the return. I have read that too slow a water rate can cause the micro bubbles so I don't know at this...

    Need advice for Return pump

hmmm... Thanks but what do you mean that "a return pump at 5 times that of your display"? How did you come up with the 1250? My tank is very deep and pretty wide which is why I think I need a stronger flow through the return. My wavemaker koralia's supply plenty of flow in the tank but I...
