    Fluorescent Corals Under Moon Light?

in my experience, depending on a corals color, many have the apperance that they are glowing under blue light, much like a white t-shirt under a black light. I have seen this more with corals that are green in color than any other color coral. This is not the coral actually glowing. Now there...

    i have a question

Just to clarify, the word "LIVE" is referring to the presence of live bacteria that help filter out ammonia and nitrates that live on the surface area of the rock and sand. Technically the surface of anything can become "live". In fact, many people start there marine tanks with dry "dead" rock...

    14k or 20k halide

tat2z_21 you are right about what color LED's most companies use for their fixtures. I apologize for using the word "spectrum" when I meant color temp. Some LED manufactures do make other colors than blue and white. Rapid for instance (not that I am promoting this company, just using as an...

    DIY surge tank>?

have you considered using a bell siphon instead of the toilet mech? Cause if that toilet mech ever fails you gotta flood, unless you build in a drain just above the toilet mech water level but just below the tank height that feeds back into your display as a precaution.

    14k or 20k halide

Just go LED then you won't have to worry about replacing bulbs, and most LED lighting setups have controls to adjust spectrum and intensity. Problem solved! LOL

    Sump ?

Agreed with everything said above, the reason you want your skimmer nearest to, or in the first chamber is because all your pods and such are growing in the next few chambers, if you have your skimmer in the middle or last you are pulling alot of those guys out before they even reach the MT and...

    DIY surge tank>?

I say do it! but only cause its not my budget or my floor, LOL. But I was watching some videos on this and it looks like a cool idea. I mean, the idea is to create a surge just like a wave hitting the reef and that causes bubbles in the reef. Have you considered just using a second pump inside...

    DIY surge tank>?

I am curious, what is the purpose of this tank? How frequently will the surge take place? How is the over flow going to handle the large amount of extra water added at such a fast rate? Know nothing about this surge tank business but am interested and following along

Hey everybody! New and... maybe you can help?

dude, this is hilarious. Both because the FW guy came to a SW forum for answers and because the SW peeps are so protective and outraged. lol. I read most of this and am trying to figure out if you are looking for a solution to get "fresh", clean water or just a clean tank to hold the tap water...

    El Veach'o Pico

Hey Peppie, can I just use a regular whole saw bit to cut the groove?
  19. C

    El Veach'o Pico

Thats what I was thinking too. I'll just leave a little groove to keep the plumbing in place. Maybe build a little bracket with some nylon screws and glue the bottom portion of the bracket to the sump so it will stay in place. Using a small piece of tube acrylic to secure the plumbing.

    El Veach'o Pico

So the moment you have all been waiting for.... Uploaded with ImageShack.us YES IT HOLDS WATER!!!! Only thing is, The pump works too well and the spill way is small the water level reaches the cut out for the pump plumbing and you can see it dripping out from this pic. I think an easy fix...
