    Saltwater Stu's 75g

Ugh, he's gone. Woke up this morning and it was floating wrong side up :( Tested everything and it all came back normal. Carried out a 20% WC just in case. Odd thing is that all my other fish and coral are fine! Old age?

    Saltwater Stu's 75g

So my powder blue I've had for the last 2.5 years about, has decided to stop eating! It appears to still be healthy but noticed it wasn't swimming around like it usually does. At feeding time he just swims around like he's interested but doesn't eat anything. Anybody have any ideas? Never...

    Simple Skimmer Question

I'm running a Marineland 300 in-sump skimmer, not the best but seems to do the trick. My question is...The skimmer seems to produce different colors of skim and different thickness of foam, is there any assumptions about the state of my tank I can make by looking at my collection cup? Is a...

This works? I'm in, I guess just finding a way to dress it up would be nice. But simple is better!

First SW tank.. tons of dumb questions! Help a newb get started? :)

So if he's not overfeeding (excess nutrients) and still getting algae, must be cycling still right? Every time he changes something its going to cycle, and it sounds like a lot has been getting changed in there recently. Just making observations here, tell me if I'm off base.

This is no joke, get a book, do even a LITTLE reading. The forums ARE going to show you multiple sides and force you to choose what you think is best, which is worthless if you don't have a basic understanding of what is actually happening in your ecosystem. Get reef keeping for dummies, it...

First SW tank.. tons of dumb questions! Help a newb get started? :)

Does the fact that he's still getting hair algae outbreaks mean the tank is still cycling and he probably shouldn't put any coral in?

You should ALWAYS do your own research, even if that means asking or looking around on the forum. I can't believe Reef Keepers sold you 2 blue hippo's knowing what they were going in to! Blows my mind actually. Had kind of a shady experience with that LFS a while back and vowed I wouldn't go...

Got the canopy on the QT, I'm happy with the results, doesn't quite hid the filter and skimmer but stops me from going blind when I sit on my couch!!!

You are correct the sand is not aragonite based. And there isn't that much crushed coral in there, so I plan on leaving it in. The buffering hasn't been an issue so far, but that should be something that would degrade with time, I just need to moniter the ph, correct? Thanks for the info, I've...

    Saltwater Stu's 75g

Here are some updated pics of the dt too: And this is the algae I'm currently battling, not sure type, just assuming its from the mini-cycle: And here is the qt hood mounted in its maintenance position, haven't put the mounting pegs in yet so I can't put it in its viewing position yet:

Ok here's a question about sand maintenance? I'm going through an algae outbreak right now, in the past with the coral I could just get in there and break it up, now if I try that I suck up a bunch of sand. So how do I perform water changes and break the algae up without putting a bunch of sand...
