What are you doing to keep your zoas and palys healthy and growing?

I gave up on zoas because of them just melting away mysteriously. I have not found that to be the case with palys. I have a colony that I've had since I got into corals. I feed frozen rotifer, phytofeast, baby brine and cyclopese. The fish get misc frozen food which I'm sure feeds the corals...

    asexual algae.

I have always used the feather calerpa and its easy to grow and I've never had it go asexual in the 5-6 yrs I've had a refugium so I agree with trido.

    Skimmer Question?

That's great that you have chaeto. I didn't realize that instant ocean gel food was drop by drop. You probably don't have much waste that way. Yes, it seems like a new protein skimmer and slightly more water changes might be the best next course of action.

    Skimmer Question?

Shinv, how long does it take your fish to eat their fill? I worked at a LFS and we recommend that they eat what they can consume in 2 minutes. Theoretically, that way you are only feeding your fish and corals, not the algaes. I can't remember, your system doesn't have any macro algae does it...

    confused n need of help

Doug, sorry to hear that you've had some trouble. I'm just now reading through your thread but it seems like you've been given good advise and with patients your tank will straighten around. I know its upsetting when there are losses, most of us have experienced that on some level. You are...

    Hello

Wow, I can't believe the toadstool! I almost didn't even see it in the photo you took a year ago. I had a devil's hand leather that grew fast like that. I sold the mother coral and am now raising one of the babies that it self fragged. My 36 gallon tank has only been up since December and...

    Hello

Oops maybe that hammer is frogspawn, I can't tell for sure. Well whatever it is it looks healthy!

    Hello

I'm a fan of hammers too and yours seems to be flourishing! I have a purple tipped hammer but its struggling. Maybe I need to move it and see if that helps. I think it might be warring with a big sinularia right below it.

    Hello

It looks really nice except the cyano. There are a lot of folks here who may be able to help with that. Do you run a protein skimmer on the system? That can help by decreasing the food that feeds it. I like that toadstool and bubble coral. I have a bubble coral also placed high in my tank.

    Eradicating green bubble algae?

The little emerald crabs are cuties, not the bubble algae!

    Eradicating green bubble algae?

I didn't know that about them needing to be young and near proximity to the troubled area. Maybe I should try them again. I never have much bubble algae but I always seem to have a little. Thanks for the tip. They are cuties anyhow.

I love both of those fish! Hey, good luck with them.

    Eradicating green bubble algae?

I have a 36 gallon tank, so too small for a desjarni tang. I did take out a plate coral and clip the tops off that had bubble algae. They were growing right at the water surface. I broke one or two algae bubbles unfortunately though. I'll just have to keep picking at it diligently.

    Eradicating green bubble algae?

Hey all, anyone have a way of getting rid of green bubble algae besides sucking it out with a syphon hose? I try to get every single one but you know how that goes...the next day you'll see one. At least its not aptasia! O yeah, I've tried emerald crabs and they didn't seem interested.

Wow, cool tank. 90 gallons are really great and I saw a sailfin tang in it. I used to have a 90 gallon also but decided I wanted smaller water changes so I scaled down in December to a 36 bow front.
