Hey all, anyone have a way of getting rid of green bubble algae besides sucking it out with a syphon hose? I try to get every single one but you know how that goes...the next day you'll see one. At least its not aptasia! O yeah, I've tried emerald crabs and they didn't seem interested.

If it is on a rock that you can take out, the best way is to take the rock out and remove the bubble algae with out breaking it. If it breaks in the tank, it will be infested. Otherwise, it has been proven that desjarni sailfins will eat it. I have not witnessed it, but thats what I heard.

I have a 36 gallon tank, so too small for a desjarni tang. I did take out a plate coral and clip the tops off that had bubble algae. They were growing right at the water surface. I broke one or two algae bubbles unfortunately though. I'll just have to keep picking at it diligently.

Emerald crabs do and will work but you have to buy them young and move them at night or during the day to the troubled area. When their older and larger they seem to blind eat, it seems for protection compared when their dime size IMHO. I put a 5 man team in my tank 1 1/2 months ago and no bubble algae but i have a heavy organic tank load so i will always have the issue.

I didn't know that about them needing to be young and near proximity to the troubled area. Maybe I should try them again. I never have much bubble algae but I always seem to have a little. Thanks for the tip. They are cuties anyhow.

The little emerald crabs are cuties, not the bubble algae!
