    Kassie's Biocube 29!

Kassie, your tank looks very nice. I love the black sand. I kind of wished when I set my 36 bow front up I had used black sand. Keep us posted as you add stuff.

    15 gallons of awesome.

Both sides look good to me! Everything looks so clean and tidy, not cluttered with equipment. When you did the fresh water test, do you think you will have enough flow without power heads? That would be nice if you can keep it uncluttered...just a little slice of ocean!

    8 gallon temperate nano tank.

O wow, that is a fair bit colder than seahorses or a Catalina goby would want. I guess your chiller gets a work out? Thanks for the info!

    8 gallon temperate nano tank.

What temperature is a temperate tank, is it like a seahorse tank or cooler? Do you have to special order the livestock? Its a very "cool" tank, (pun intended)!

    ReefGeekers 90g Reef

I don't think ick is always in a tank but there are multiple ways it can be introduced. If you get new fish that are infected and they are not quarantined, that is one way. Even if you get a new coral and you pour the water the coral came with, if that water contained ick in the free swim stage...

    ReefGeekers 90g Reef

If you are on a tight budget and have to choose what equipment is most important for a reef tank, I would choose a skimmer before a UV. Having said that I do still run a UV on my tank. It does aid in killing parasites like ick in the free swim stage. It does not eliminate ick altogether but...

How to get rid of coralline

Not all urchins are reef safe, right? Are pencil urchins the only ones that are? Are they a bowl in a China closet about knocking corals over? I have some large snails that I've dubbed Turbo the terrible because of that!

Suzanne May 180 Gallon Reef Build

When I aquqscape, I picture a mountainous desert landscape. Its kind of like a 3d painting where the dominant objects should at the third and two thirds section of the tank. That helps me design good composition. Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder and its not wrong if its pleasing...

I'll be watching your progress, Nana. When will you begin?

    dimdims tank thread !

Mandarins need pretty big well established tanks to meet their dietary needs of copepods. In tanks that are too small they will waste away after they eat all the available pods. Ideally the pods are reproducing in a fuge where there are no predators, so the fuge replenishes the DT. Your...

    dimdims tank thread !

Actually the sand bed is a very good place for GSP. It will settle in and start growing like crazy, just be patient. If its in an area with moderate flow the polyps will extend and it'll look like a field of grass blowing in the wind. The mat can be trimmed to the size you want on the sand...

GSP grows so prolifically, IMO you wouldn't want such a large piece in your tank. I am continually cutting mine and throwing it away as it can take over if you are not careful. See if there is a reef club in your area that you can get plugged into and someone will be happy to give you GSP.

    dimdims tank thread !

Wow, that's not too bad! I've spent more than that on one coral so you are doing good.

I'm assuming the odor went away? And how are your phosphates? Xenia actually utilize phosphates for energy. I've heard some reef tank owners say their tanks were too nutrient poor to sustain Xenia. I never had that problem. LOL

Lawnmower blennies are cute in a prehistoric way. I like all the coral you chose too, especially candy cane. When you get everything situated, we'd like to see some pics!

OK, so I feel like an idiot! Make sure all packaging is off bulbs!!!

LOL, not even sure my hubby will let me near the camera after this incident. Actually in my thread, Dawn's new 36 gallon bow front there is a before and after pic. The very first pic is a before and yesterday's update is an after. Its not apples and apples though, my LFS didn't have a purple...
