    LPS and calcium

I know, my son has told me the same thing. Its just that I've always had good luck with IO. Maybe I will give it a go though. Where I worked at the LFS they still give me a generous discount so I could probably get reef crystals for the same price.

    Dawn's new 36 bowfront aquarium

Thank you, I appreciate the encouragement. I'm thinking' about changing out the koralia for a smaller profile power head. It does a nice job but I prefer the equipment to be almost invisible. All6fish, is that reflective of the livestock in your tank? LOL. I'd have to be All8fish!

    LPS and calcium

I could take a water sample to the store I worked at and have everything checked. I've been thinking of doing that. The only thing I've dosed is strontium, iodine and coral Vite. Does coral Vite have Mg? I just figured the clam needed the trace elements.

    LPS and calcium

Maybe I'm doing unnecessary WCs but I have always done them in a regimented way. I used to maintenance FOWLR tanks for a LFS and I saw systems go for years without a hitch because of faithful WCs. I didn't do reef tanks though except an occasional softie which is why I'm not as knowledgeable...

    LPS and calcium

My pH is 8.3 -8.4. My alk. is 3.6, Ca is 450 and Mg is 1850. They have been that since the tank settled and cycled in early December.

    LPS and calcium

I bought 2 part when I bought the clam but have never used it. I have Kent Marine Mg if needed but it too has held steady. When my LPS really start to take off, which number will be the first to reflect the depletion?

    LPS and calcium

OK guys, I've had a reef tank about 5 yrs and did well. It was predominantly a softie reef. I never dosed and everything thrived with just faithful WCs. Now I've switched gears a bit with a new (smaller) tank and have a lot more LPS plus a clam. I expected to see my tanks calcium needs...

    My tank crashed today, Help

That's how my battery back up works too. It at least deals with the first critical area of concern during a power outage. I have a kerosene heater and fireplace to help with heat. Not ideal but probably get us by for a week if need be.

    My tank crashed today, Help

I hear you about water and electricity, especially salt water because its more conductive! I'm not telling anyone not to use one but its probably wise to have more than one circuit running the tank so a GFCI doesn't shut everything down or sure enough it'll trip when you are on vacation!

    My tank crashed today, Help

Probably a GFCI would have caught it but they can present their own problems. They can trip over an event that is not significant and if they trip the only outlet that is running the tank then everything is shut off! We had one but disabled it because we couldn't risk it shutting off when we...

    Pulsating clams

Do all clams do this pulsating? I have a crocea and have never noticed it doing anything like that.

    Hello from Vancouver BC

Hi Zee, its great to have ya here on RF. We'll enjoy following your progress on your tank. When you have a reef tank its never done, there are always new things to explore and try. We can all do that together.

    My tank crashed today, Help

So are any of your corals coming back? None of your fish were impacted, right? Equipment malfunctions are a bummer, they can be so random and without warning.

    Catching a rogue damsel?

Yeap, my damsel is now living the solitary life in my sump. At least me and the clam are happy.

    Catching a rogue damsel?

Thanks, I'm glad that I didn't need hook or harpoon!
